Few Jabba remap q's?

Featured Replies

Ok here goes, i'm looking to get my Occy VRS remapped in the new year, i'd like to settle a few things first.

Boost controller or not?

a) Is it worth it?

B) Can i turn it right down and remove it so no one would know it had been remapped?

c) Does anyone have a pic of one in car and under bonnet?

Open ECU or use OBC socket?

a) If the ECU is not opened would anyone be able to tell it's been remapped (just by looking) ie Service time?

B) Is there a differance in power output?

And finally, fuel?

How much of a decrease in total power would i experience if i have it mapped for 95 ROM as opposed to 97 or 98?

I know a lot of these will have been covered before but to have it all in 1 thread would be good to help me (and others) decide.

Thanks :)

Boost controller or not?

a) Is it worth it? - YES - ADJUSTS TORQUE CURVES ETC ON THE FLY

B) Can i turn it right down and remove it so no one would know it had been remapped? - YES AND NO - YOU CAN TURN IT RIGHT DOWN TO STD BOOST, BUT YOU'D STILL KNOW IT HAD BEEN REMAPPED. IT IS ACTUALLY REMOVEABLE (JACK PLUG)

c) Does anyone have a pic of one in car and under bonnet? - IN CAR IT IS A 2CM BY 1CM (APPROX) UNIT WITH A KNOB ON IT - TINY - NO UNDER BONNETNESS ;)

Open ECU or use OBC socket?

a) If the ECU is not opened would anyone be able to tell it's been remapped (just by looking) ie Service time? - THEY'D KNOW ;)

B) Is there a differance in power output? - MINE WENT TO 230BHP/320NM TORQUE - ON A HOT DAY WITH 95 RON

And finally, fuel?

Boost controller or not? [/quote']

Yes, do it.

a) Is it worth it?

Yes, absoloutely no doubt about it.

B) Can i turn it right down and remove it so no one would know it had been remapped?

Yes, if you have the boost controller fitted.

c) Does anyone have a pic of one in car and under bonnet?

Umm, nothing to see really, apart from a small dial for the boost controller.

Open ECU or use OBC socket?

Mine originally was re-chipped, in the "old" days before OBD port uploads. When i went back to have the boost controller fitted, Jabba converted it to OBD free of charge, in case i need to get it adjusted for future mods.

a) If the ECU is not opened would anyone be able to tell it's been remapped (just by looking) ie Service time?

Not with the boost controller set to minimum & removed.

B) Is there a differance in power output?

Of course, that's the point :). It's a HUGE difference.

And finally, fuel?

They set mine so i can run pretty much any fuel i like, and use the boost controller to allow for this.

No Problem. Give them a call, they're a friendly bunch and will bend over backwards to help & advise you. Don't forget to PM Adrian (SkodiRS) and see if there's a group buy coming up :)

a)boost controller-i went for it and its handy for cruising on the motorway when you don't need full power.

b)you can remove it,you get a jack plug to blank the hole which reverts back to low setting(never done this)

c)don't have a picture i'm afraid, look under the bonnet between services,i think not!!!

no idea on the open or OBD route.

and fuel best ask Jabba/REVO etc directly for the answers.

i always use Optimax and had my map done running it.

probably been no help but i thought i'd try.

BOOST CONTROLLER pics are in my gallery..

Under Boost Controller

Any other Qs.... Please ask.

Thanks guys, seems to be a bit of differance regarding people knowing on service or not, oh well i guess it don't matter that much, and yes i will definately be doing it. And having boost controller too by the look of it, any other opinions welcome, i'll also speak to Jabba :)

They will not know it's remapped at service time with the boost controller set to minimum & removed, that's a fact. They aren't likely to go digging around the ECU for the sake of it, as time is money.

A full scan of the ECU WILL show up any remap, but the dealers do not have the facility for this. However VAG Technical do, and it's likely a claim for a new ECU will be refused, as they are almost certain to check given that remapping is big business..

boost controller pics if they help

Yes i'm sure it will be.. :) Has anyone had any reliability issues after a remap? If so what kind of things?

Since we have started the group buys, and there have been 8...or is it more?.....none of the mapped cars have had any problems.

There is the overboost issue where you get a slight dip in acceleration when passing through 2krpm or a slight surge when slowing down through 2krpm.....this is easily rectified.

However I would say when you go for your test run.....go on a long run on the main roads, not the twisty one roun dthe back of Crowlands......you'll detect in much easier on a long run.

Doing this you can then tell Mike and he'll sort it before you go home. Otherwise you'll have to make a return trip.

Let me know when you're ready and I'll start up another group buy for the remap. Will also have to do one for the boost controller as well.

Ok will do, has anyone here had theirs mapped for 95 RON? If so what output did you get? I had a mail from Jabba saying it loses abot 10 to 15 BHP when mapped for 95 RON. I don't use Optimax often but if i had it mapped for Optimax and ran 95 RON in it would that affect performance? I know it wouldn't run like if it had Optimax in it but would it still run ok and then full power when Optimax was used?

Just tell Mike you don't usually use Optimax / SUL but would like the option.

If you have the boost controller fitted he can take this into account :)
