Clunk, Clunk, Clunk!

Featured Replies

Got a horrid clunking sound from the front when steering/turning at slow speed, eg when parking, pulling off, cornering at slow speed....

Bought the car on Sunday, clunking started yesterday, need it sorted asap.

Anybody like to enlighten me as to what the problem could be?

Could be/

Anty roll bar

Shocks

Engine mounts

Or any other numbers of things :-)

But would try get it on a ramp and jack it up and have a good pull on them.

But as you sead you just got it i would just take it to a local garage to get them to give it an mot as that would cover most thing and could find any other stuff you dont know about.

And give you peace of mine that the car is safe.

And the new mot :-)

Check your wheel bolts first....

Private sale, or from a garage? If the latter then take it back and get them to sort it.

standard height or lowered? look for a broken spring

Broken top mount?

Collapsed wishbone bush?

Does the cluncking reverberate through the steering wheel? If so, could be rack mounts.

ARB bushes tend to creak rather than clunck (unless they have totally dissapeard. But I would not expect that to happen overnight).

cv joint by the sounds of it. check for split cv boots first

I was thinking run CV joint too. On a car I'd just bought, I'd take it back where I got it after looking for a split boot so I knew if there was one or not.
