Changing from Mk2 Octavia VRS to New 1.4tdi Fabia 3

Featured Replies

Hi all ,

Some independant advice would be nice . I have a Race Blue Mint Condition Octavia VRS 33,000 Miles on the Clock , Just serviced , new battery front shocks and two new bridgestones on the rear bought the car around 8 months ago and spent loads on it to get it to my pristine standard ? Its what I always do .

Drove past skoda dealer at Cheshire Oaks and found myself Part Ex'ing for a New Factory built Fabia 3 1.4 TDCI .

My decision was mainly on that I might have to start traveling to a new place of work 60 Miles a day and wanted to cut down on fuel costs . VRS 30mpg Fabia allegedly around 60mpg .

Am I doing the right thing . I love my octavia will I be able to live with a Fabia 80bhp tdci .

Anyone else done the same

Your views are welcome :dull:

You are making the right decision as far as fuel costs are concerned

BUT

IMO the performance difference from your vRS wouldmake me reject the idea

Its your call

How about a 1.9 TDi?

Thanks for the advice believe tax is £35.00 a year on the 1.4tdci and I was thinking that the 1.9tdci would still be nothing like the 200bhp petrol vrs I have at the moment . I did actually drive the 1.4 and I was pleasantly suprised . The Octavia is great at speeds that are liable for a ban however on the roads today you have to be so careful .

I have a new zx10r for my adrenalin buzz and find that I just use the car to get to work and back and that is expensive .

If I did less miles would probably keep it .

Its wether when I get the Fabia I will get bored .

Hopefully Not ...

Im with Chris.

Our non response police vehicles are 1.4tdi engined furbys (the one i had today is a 59 plate), and its a world away from my 1.9tdi octy. Its rather rough and a bit noisy (the furby that is).

And IMO the octy is a far nicer car to drive.

If you really must change, i'd say go for a 1.9tdi furby.

However if it was me..... i'd keep the vrs, and be a little more gentle with my right foot to save a bit on fuel,

Then you can still have some fun when the mood takes you

Are you going to save the cost of the new car in fuel?

60 miles a day at 60mpg or 30mpg so you'll save one gallon a day in theory.

Say £5 a gallon, how long will it take for the Furbie to pay for itself ?

As others say you might miss the performance but then if you have a zx10 a VRS ain't going to feel that fast anyway.

What I'd say to if think about is the change in size. I went from a Focus to a Clio for fuel saving and I hated that Clio, partly because it was made by French monkeys who think QA robs them of cheese eating time, but mainly because I couldn't stand being in a car so small.

You'll be in that car for a while each day so you have to be comfortable. I'd get a derv Octy if I was pushed, I'll never downsize again if I can help it. The bigger the journey the bigger the car.

And once you factor in the depreciation on both cars, ie what you will have lost on the VRS (at least £1500) and what you will on the new one, perhaps you should keep the VRS.

might save on the fuel tax and insurance within 3 years and plus I will have a 3 year warranty . To change from my 06 Octavia vrs to a new Fabia 3 TDCI 1.4 is £3600.00 . Just a 10 week wait for the Fabia . Working out at £150.00 pm over two years . VAT free at the moment and 0% . So basically I am getting 8k for mine and paying £11500 for a new fabia

If I was a bit more flush and wasn't still paying for the mrs car and my bike I might have considered an Octavia VRS Diesel currently on the same offer well there's always next time .

Thanks for all your advice .

Fuzz , I think we have just signed up for a fleet of skoda's at work so could be quite interesting ??

One more thing has anyone seen one in White ????

For a long drive, especially if you're doing it every day, I'd stay with the Octavia, but see about getting a 1.6 CR diesel or the 1.9 PD diesel. The difference in fatigue after a journey in a small car compared to a bigger one will add up. Certainly if I had to drive that kind of distance I'd be looking for a car I enjoyed driving first, then economy. The 1.4 may not have the spare power to get you to speed on motorway on ramps without the need to push it hard, which is less relaxing to drive. Before buying try getting a test drive where you have a chance to get the car to speed on a motorway on ramp, especially if you can find an uphill one. The VRS won't even notice having to do this, but the 1.4 CR will start to suffer.

+1 for that.

I had a 1.4TDi Furby Estate loan car for a month whilst waiting for my 1.9TDi Octy to arrive. In comparison... well, there is no comparison. The furby is noisy and you'll constantly be changing down as it just has no pull whatsoever below 2000 rpm. OTOH, the 1.9TDi Octy feels like a completely different beast being a lot quieter with loads more low down torque meaning you won't be constantly stirring the gearbox. No way I'd choose the 1.4TDi Furby whereas I'm delighted (even surprised) with the performance of the 1.9TDi in my Octy.

My TDI Octy VRS went in for a service today.

I was presented with a 1.4TDI Fabia Estate for the day... all I can say is OMFG

After much deliberation have decided to go for a 1.9tdci fabia on the zero vat o% offer instead of the 1.4tdci . Thinking should be the same 1.9engines as the golf 1.9td well hoping .

Any views ??

Had a 1.9TDI MkV Golf, and it went well and delivered 50mpg ..... a far better choice than the 1.4TDI IMO
