droning noise!?!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I seem to have a droning noise, or loud road noise in the cabin, ...could this be the wheel bearings need changed?

Thanks in anticipation for any help!

i have the same thing was told it was the eagle f1 tyres on it but still not convinced

Hi Gman 1974.

I too had a 'droning' noise (at 40-50 mph) which I convinced myself was a failing wheel bearing.

Once your ear is atuned to it it's hard to ignore!!

However I needed my rear tyres changing (Toyo T1Rs) and as soon as that was done - droning gone!!

If your tyres are near to legal limit might be worth a try?

I've got T1R's and they can be noisy when cold!.. When they were new and soft they were lovely and quiet but as they age they're getting more vocal!

As far as I know a failing bearing will start off droning at higher speeds and as it fails the drone will get louder and louder and move down the speed needed to hear it.

I have the same, one day I left the missus in the house and it stopped

On a serious note, could try having a check of the wheel bearings for any play, can be a horrid noise, but more often than not its the tyres.

Entirely possible; if they're asymetrics try swapping side to side. If directional swap fronts and rears.

Agreed.

If your wheel bearing is failing you could find that after driving, the alloy on which it is failing is hotter than the other three. This happened to me on my 330d. First slight droning noise in car then found that front NS alloy was actually too hot to touch after driving. Other three were cold. Wheel bearing was on it's way out.

Just something to check, it can't hurt.

i have this same droning noise i suspect the front tyres as they are getting low on tread now currently ive got yoko paradas looking at toyos t1r's.
