API suggestions

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Team project at the moment is building a website linked with a database and many other fancy little bits! I have to include an 'API' aspect into the site and the only example given was 'twitter'.

I'm thinking an RSS news feed maybe? This thread is looking for ideas really! It's for a university website and is focused on paying course fees only. I really don't know what to do so open to suggestions.

Many thanks,

Rob.

No good with webbuilds.. but aint api a basic gui that allows users to interact with teh website.. ie a forum. or am i way off

I am assuming you have to use another sites API and include it in your site, not create an API for your site?

Few simple ones spring to mind that are easy to include in a site, Twitter feed, Google Maps, Youtube embed, AddThis

That's just the thing. It states to use an API!?

I presume as 'Twitter' is named that it's to use another sites API. I'm trying to get a bbc news feed in at the moment - Wish me luck!

(Thanks for the help earlier Alex! - I now have nice validation that even changes colour when a wrong value is entered.) - Simple minds eh?

You could kill two birds with one stone and create an API for accessing the database - then have your website use that API rather than accessing the database directly.

That's perfect! - Just the job. Thanks Rob.

Create an Access API and then let them use your API to build the web interface.

That same API can then be used to allow machine or human access :)
