Weird hole in door

Yo,

Are these drain holes in the front door sills of the Octy Mk II?

CheerS!

Probably

Nope, the one on the car body contains the microswitch that operates the internal lights etc when you open a door, and the metal bit on the door is what activates the switch.

Simples!

The answer surprised me- I also thought it was some kind of reinforcement for the door aperture. My last two VWs had no visible means of switching the courtesy lights- I presumed a hidden magnet was used.

Ah thanks very much! Makes sense, keep the sensor in the dry etc. The Octy always surprises me with innovation and build quality!

How do the rears work....?

The microswitch is built into the lock mechanism IIRC. I assumed also that these tabs were to do with revieving the pressure off of the hinges, or for extra rigidity or something.
