New headunit fitted

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have fitted a new stereo to my Fab VRS as I wanted to use my iPod and people say the headunit is the weak part of the system.

I have fitted it using the fitting kit and amplified ariel kit provided but as the title says the settings (eg radio stations) aren't saved each time my key is removed.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

PLEASE HELP.........PLEEEEAASE?!?!?!?

Tez

you need to swap the red and yellow wires around - the permanent and switched live I believe.

Do a search, fairly common problem - have you also disconnected the K line (or used it for the aerial amplifier) to avoid blowing up diagnostics kit?

To be honest I haven't got a clue what the k-line is. I will swap the red and yellow round then.

I thought that the harness that I bought with the stereo would/should make everything work straight from the box.

Bloody things.

What is the k-line thing? I am using he stereo at the moment so I hope I'm not going to dammage anything.

Thanks for your reply.

Harnesses are not often setup for VAG use. But yeah, swapping red/yellow cures the memory thing.

Not sure on K line. Never been an issue for me after 4 years+ of Pioneer DEH MP3 stereo use.

K line is a blue wire. Connect the wire from the stereo to power your antenna amplifier. Leave the wire at the connector end unconnected.

Right then. I have done what I should have done in the first place and looked through all the thousands of

old posts on here that tell me what to do.

As has been said. I will swap the red and yellow bullet conectors over so that the constant feed IS going to the correct place. (I can't believe they haven't changed this over

on the harnesses but Reading through past posts it is just vag cars that are

the other way round.

I will also have a look at disconnecting the blue wire thing whilst I am there.

I had never heard of that before.

Thanks for the help. Especially as I SHOULD have searched for it before asking.

Tez.
