ABS light on ?

Featured Replies

Just wanted some of your guys advice with regards to the ABS light coming on!

I drove the car back from work last night no problems but when i started it up this morning the ABS light was on and the ASR was too!

Im taken it that is a loose connection as the car has just had new shocks fitted.

But how do i tell which sensor it is?

Im going to go round then each one in turn and check them but if that doesnt work is there a way without taking it to a garage!

Also i take it the ASR light has come on because the ABS isnt working?

But the ASR light when i checked it a minute ago had gone out but the ABS was still on any ideas?

Not sure if this is relevant. I had the all 3 lights come on including the tyre pressure warning light. It was an intermittant fault and eventually was traced to a faulty type pressure sensor which was replaced. So, in my case I had a problem with a tyre pressure sensor yet 3 warning lights came on rather than just the faulty one.

New shocks - it is possible one of the ABS rings has got bent.... or a cable to one of the ABS sensors might have been unplugged.

Yeah thats what im thinking and hoping, just think worse case though lol

I repaired the ABS system on my Primera before I sold it and I very much doubt there is a great deal of difference in the system. Once you have checked the obvious causes (fuse, unplugged sensor cables, damaged ABS rings etc.), the next thing to do is get a multimeter, set it to resistance, unplug each ABS sensor and check the resistance of the sensor. It isn't a foolproof method, but it does give an indication if one is way out compared to the other. IIRC, the dodgy one on my Primera was showing an extremely high resistance, compared to about 2000 ohms on the other three. If all are showing the same resistance value, then it's unlikely to be the sensors at fault.

In which case, you could try and find the other end of the ABS cables where they emerge into the engine bay. Hopefully they'll have a second plug there too, so you can unplug that one as well and then test the continuity of each ABS cable from the engine bay to the wheel. If all four pass then that would point towards either the ECU or the ABS unit itself . . . beyond my knowledge there I'm afraid.

Hope this is of some help.

Sounds very similar to what I helped a mate do on this P reg Primera a few months back.. At least Octy ABS sensors look to be much easier to change than on the Primera

found out that the padwear sersor and the ABS cable on the front right hand wheel had come off and the whell had cut through it!

All better now tho lol

I didn't think there was a pad wear sensor on the RHF wheel?
