EGR delete

Featured Replies

i decided to do this mod too, tbh it seemed a bit slower, less 'pokey'

dunno if its in my head or if its actually effected it, has everyone else experienced this?

Possibly from low speed using gentle engine load, as EGR gas reduces combustion temperatures and the speed of the combustion flame front. However, under load the EGR should always be closed anyway, so doubtful you would notice any difference.

The light can only be mapped out, you can't turn it off with VAG-COM.

Bump no 2!

Ok so I've been searching thro the forums and found a site called autospeed. It has LOADS of articles about tweeking the car. Some are a bit controversial to say the least but defo this guy has spent a hell of alot of time tweeking.

Anyway, I stumbled across one of his articles on the egr delete and I think its decribing pretty much what some people might be feeling on their cars (mine included)

http://autospeed.com/cms/A_110581/article.html

for short version quoted from article -

Throttle response for relatively large foot movements was much sharper (almost jerky in fact), but when feeding-in the throttle gently, a flat spot could be clearly felt. Full throttle acceleration was unchanged – the EGR is switched off then anyway.

(This is an important point. If the EGR is off at full throttle, modifying the factory EGR valve duty cycle will make zero difference to full-throttle power. This mod is all about part-throttle behaviour – vastly more important in the real world as 99.9 per cent of driving is not at full throttle!)

Maybe something to think about, When weather clears up im gonna bung the egr back and see if its true.

Obviously im assuming when egr delete is done plus a remap im sure issues will clear right up.. :D
