This sounds like it's April 1st but bear with me.

Got in the car this afternoon for a quick drive to Stevenage and noticed the drivers door mirror had been folded in. Did a quick check and there was no damage.

Started the engine which stuttered a little and gave a lot more smoke out the back than normal.

I adjusted the passenger mirror (always lower it to park by the kerb so had to raise it again).

It's then I noticed my mirror controls had reversed. L did the right and R did both. The windows had also swapped around overnight. Once I knew what did what I carried on to Stevenage and made a note to call the dealer on Monday morning.

Parked up in Stevenage and left the car for a couple of hours. When I got in a tested the windows and they'd reset to normal. Same for the mirrors and it had restarted without the excess smoke.

Anyone got any ideas what gremlin might be in the works?

Hope it doesnt make the car turn left when your turning the wheel right, with it having electronic variable power assist

Yeah ive had it a couple of times where the window controls swap themselves round...very strange and a known problem. Restarting always solved it for me.

is it because the car uses a BUS to send elec data which cuts down on wires in the car>

If you have a look at the plug on a window switch (they are a combined unit) there are only five pins, if you think that even on a car with front electric windows there are around 10 different control options from that switch pack its quite clever how everything works. It does its clever PFM (pure f'ing magic) but running a 5v supply through a set of resistors. If the window motor/control unit (built in together) recieves 3.5v for example it knows that is window 'up' and powers the motor up. The problem arises I think that every now and again it either looses a bit of voltage somewhere (water, damp, poor connection who knows) and gets a bit confused. Turning the ignition on and off again resets it all and its OK.

There is a fix for it, ask your dealer. It happens every now and again on mine, I live with it.

Same problem with mine (16v Furby) been there since bought car. (2000)

Always ok next time i start the car.

ok mine did this this morning, Went to lock the doors via the switch and it didn't work. Electric window switches went mad too, drivers work the passenger side and passenger side worked the drivers!!! Also mirrors did the same!! All corrected it's self when I pushed down the locking pin.

Very weird indeed

Now Skoda is getting a bit of performance credibility, perhaps they're deliberately building little idiosyncracies into the cars to give them, er, character, like Alfas and Lancias
