Removing towbar electrics?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I'm in the process of removing the towbar (with twin electrics) from my mk1 Octy estate (as I have no need for a towbar and dislike the appearance). My question is can I just snip (and seal) the wire ends where they emerge into the rear quarter panel behind the cd changer? From there they seem to head off into a mass of wires . . .

My concern is if this will trigger a dash light or something, although I am suspecting not as it looks like when nothing is connected to the electrics, all the pins are open.

Cheers.

Rather than cut any cables etc, just remove the sockets from the bar, and wrap in a plastic bag, and cable tie up under the bumper or somewhere round there.

Then if you want to use it at some time or sell the car and the new owner needs a towbar its easy to reinstall

I agree, this is the best bet and most simple

Cheers folks. I couldn't get the sockets through the towbar without disconnecting the wires, so I undid the screw retainers inside each socket, wrapped the tail wires each in insulation tape then paired them into a heat-shrink cable sheath, cable tied together and tucked away under the bumper.

Mine was mostly attached with Scotchlok connectors, so I removed the lot.
