Being advised to change rear wiper motor....

Featured Replies

.... because the rear washer keeps blocking up.

Basically my car was in for a service at an independent garage and I asked them to rectify the blocked rear washer (it’s been back twice to a Skoda dealer with this problem). The garage discovered rust coming out of one of the washer nozzles and it is their opinion that as the washer fluid passes through the motor (really?) that it will keep blocking unless the motor is replaced. The car is still under warranty so they advised me to get it back to a Skoda dealer to sort.

Has anyone else had this problem? Apparently it's a common arrangement for all VAG cars.

Cheers

I had rusty brown water coming out the pipe too. After a couple of attempts at cleaning (lemon juice and a pin) and a change of fluid I got the jets working. Needed another hour with a pin arranging the jet to hit the screen and no problems since.

When I got the car at 11000 miles the filter in the neck of the washer bottle was missing.

I think the jets may be easily blocked and any crud in the system accumulates. When you take the jet off that looks like rust. I wouldn't worry. Our other car is an 11 year old golf with the same system but with a single jet that doesnt follow the wiper and never been a problem.

The octy doesn't come with a filter in the neck of the bottle.

That would explain why I didn't find it.

I assumed it was identical with the Mk IV Golf which fits nicely. However, I will quote you page 262 of the manual which is why I assumed mine was lost? :

"Note

Do not take the filter out of the windscreen wash container when filling it

up again with liquid otherwise dirt can get into the liquid transportation

system and can lead to faults in operation of the windscreen wash

system."

Mine too :)

A workmate has just had his 57 vRS serviced last week and they changed the rear wiper motor without being asked so must be a common problem.

My Octavia 1.9 Tdi ellegance (2001) does have a filter in the washer filler. I also had to unblock the jet after rusty water came out & it was fine after.

Filter on mine too, i use distilied water and Skoda screenwash no prob so far.

Certainly the older ones didn't as I had to add one to mine and a couple of others I know of did too.
