Skoda Badge...Changing it?!?

Featured Replies

I know this is a bit odd, but I'm SERIOUSLY thinking of changing the badges on my yeti when it arrives with something a bit more funky...There's a guy on here (PastyBoy) who makes bespoke badges and I've thought about either just the Skoda logo without the wording (to make it a bit more asbstract) or even designing my own badge with a mystery brand/logo...That will get people thinking!! What are your thoughts?!?

Some of the photos on google of the yeti concept car show a 2 tone silver badge that looks quite cool...It's just the skoda logo without wording...It's even tempting to remove all branding and put a blank badge on...Hmmm. Really not sure what would look best but the skoda badge that it comes with just looks too 'normal' for the yeti...

This is one of the PastyBoy specials:

And this one's off a Felicia I think - now a discontinued part:

There's a guy on here (PastyBoy)

That's me! Given all my badges are a bespoke make you can be as creative as you like.

And like other say the Yeti is "individual" so why not make your even more so!

Something like this on a badge?

I'm with Pasty Boy here. The car is a Yeti, the badge should be a Yeti.

Retro Gal - You should Copyright your new, and very classy logo. Big companies will spend £1/2m to come up with a logo as good as the one you have posted on here.

Really confuse 'em. Put a VW badge on it.

I do indeed dabble in graphic design but this little beauty wasn't my work unfortunately...I found it floating about on the web!! I was going to design my own but think that this pretty much hits the spot...

Was VERY, very tempted to do that...People would be lining up to buy the yeti if they thought it was a VW...Brand snobbery! Having worked in Brand Marketing for Orange for 4 years, I have to say, a brand/logo is INCREDIBLY important and I really do think that when VW took over skoda, they should have created a logo like the one that I attached in this thread. Losing the name 'skoda' and the rather conservative green colour from the badge would have helped dramatically with the popularity of their vehicles with the younger generations...The correct brand look and feel really does work

Actually VW introduced the green colour to Skoda. I can remember the then Skoda dealer in Worcester (Jim Strefford) having all sorts of problems getting the right green to paint his workshop because either it wasn't available or the local Planners didn't like it.

Before they took over the corporate colours were red and lightish blue. I've probably still got some stuff in those colours from my days with the old works rally Team.

I really believe they should have kept it simple...No words, a bold 'cropped' version of their current logo and nice modern colours...Perhaps just chrome/silver/greys...

The new Vauxhall logo is similar in some ways to the one on here. I like that as well, it is a good upgrade to what was a dated badge. It is such a big deal to change a badge though, all stationary, signs, etc have to be updated but when it works it does improve a brand and its image. The Skoda brand has improved its image enormously but maybe an update to its badge would be the final push it needs to ditch the old image.

Incidentally before anyone gets feisty to what is a really good thread, everyone on this site is a Skoda admirer as we all drive or will soon drive Skoda cars. This discussion is looking at the wider population. I have noticed that some people on this forum are VERY sensitive and defensive regarding the Skoda name and it would be a shame if that took over this thread.

Yikes. Let me make this REALLY clear. I think Skoda are excellent cars. Really well made with none of the typical flashy bull*!%$. All that I am saying is if Skoda wanted to attract a younger audience, a re-brand would do the trick. I showed all my pals a photo of the yeti with the badge hidden...They all had positive views...Until I showed them the Skoda badge. They all then wrinkled up their noses and said 'don't do it!'.

I really am not trying to stir anything up or cause an argument. Skodas a great. It's just my views on a design/brand front.

I prefer out of what went before the Škoda Logo (1926-1933) I do not like the winged arrow at all. Non are that inspiring.

Retro Gal - I know you are not stirring up trouble. I think this is a really good fun thread. Having seen how sensitive some people are on this forum though I did not want them to hijack this with a "how dare you" series of posts. A number of threads seem to deteriorate into a "go and buy another car if you don't like it" stomp that would make a 6yr old ashamed. This one is good fun and I am enjoying the comments and designs that people have put up. I am looking forward to seeing what others may design.

Keep going girl

Skoda use that badge for all their concept cars: http://new.skoda-auto.com/com/innovation/concepts/Pages/concepts.aspx

IMO it looks much better, I don't think the bright green does Skoda any favours to be honest and it would look classier and more modern if they went with the concept badging all the time.

But if you rebrand them, they will still be called Skoda so surely some people wil still have the same stereotyped view of Skodas? Or are some people really so shallow that changing the badge would suddenly convince them that Skodas are 'cool'?

I don't really object to the current badge but I do like the one on the concept cars.

I totally agree. They need to move with the times. The Yeti is by far their most innovative/modern design yet but the badge really does let it down.

I believe that the way forward for Skoda is to continue bring out cars like the Yeti and the Superb. They need to build on those models pushing the other manufacturers hard on terms of quality and value for money. I doubt that changing a badge would have a great deal of impact on potential sales. As for changing the name from Skoda to something else well their are already a huge number of manufacturers vying for attention, changing for the sake of it is going to bury it amongst them, it will take ages to re-establish. It would make no difference to me what it is called or what badge. I buy a car on merit not a name. I have no manufacturer bias or loyalty to Skoda or any other. I have no sentimentality towards a name either.
