Tesco fuel

Featured Replies

Does Tesco always get it's fuel from the same supplier?

I just wonder after having a tank of supposedly 99RON that ran like it was a turps/bisto/Stella mix and a few weeks later a tank that ran as well as VPower.

I'd rather not use supermarket fuel but I've not a lot of choice after moving house.

Not always, it's usually whats closer. All fuel can be inconsistant and the enviromnment is a much greater factor in how your car runs

You will have no problems running supermarket fuel. They are just as good/bad as everyone else.

I heard that Tesco 99 was supplied by Greenergy. Not sure if this is still the case though. Maybe check the Greenergy website which used to list Tesco sites selling 99.

Tesco like other supermarkets buy their fuel on the open market, no fixed supplier. I think it also depends what part of the country the Tesco store is. For instance in the the last couple of years the south east stores used the Vopak terminal in West Thurrock [it's where the fuel contamination happened last year, storage tanks were not cleaned properly when changing stored fuels] and before that was bought from the BP refinery in Coryton, SE Essex.

Up this way, it all comes from the same refinery (Grangemouth) and never had a problem with any supermarket fuel.

As it happens, got shopping this morning, and got my 5p a litre off fuel, so the Cupra will be treated to some 99 Octane stuff in the next few days

I would also assume S/market fuels in the West countryWales will come from Milford Haven.

Generally. You wll even find Sainsburys tankers filling shell stations and vica versa. It's all the same...

Last time I used Tesco fuel it blocked up my carb and left what looked like soup in the tank. Despite an AA report, a fuel sample and the original fuel filter in a sample bag, they weren't having it. The other two people in there complaining when I arrived didn't seem to make any difference either. I had a letter basically saying that nobody else had complained and that it was probably that my fuel filler neck or tank were rusty.. on a Golf MK2, where both were plastic. Not touched them since.

My car runs on Tesco 99 most of the time and goes well on it.

I believe that most of the fuel sold in East Anglia originates from the Coryton refinery in Essex.

But I did overtake a Greenergy tanker heading for Norwich on the A11 yesterday.

That wasn't St Peters, Worcester by any chance?

I will NEVER use that station unless there is nowhere else to go; there is a problem with sand in the tanks from when they were fitted; filling up always risks getting an engine full. It totally destroyed the carb on an old Renault I 1/3rd filled there many years ago (tank was already 2/3rd full, I was going on a long trip; managed 200 meters!!).

As mentioned above, Tesco deny there is a problem and blame you; I found out later that the local CAB had 200 complaints on file for the same problem.

Another point not advertised by Tesco - PRICE .On petrol price.com , all my local Asda charge the same .I've got two Tesco ,one a couple of miles away ,the other ,a giant one ,another mile away .Needed a tank of diesel today ,and had to pass both ,so called into first one -same price as my local thieves .The Giant one was 2p a litre cheaper .Seems to me that Tesco just use the local prices and slightly undercut them .

This was at Hamilton, Leicester. Always seems to be busy though so it must have been a brief spell of bad fuel management
