98 Felicia - Heater problems

Featured Replies

Hi, new to the forum. I recently purchased a Skoda (98 Felicia), air only comes out the top vents when the car is in motion, either hot or cold, depending on the dial.

What could this problem be? Is it an easy fix, or a whole new blower? I'm not too bothered, just wondering what the problem is :p

Thanks

REally it comes down to the switch, the resistor or the motor that's gone - if a fuse has blown then usually it's 'cos the motor is stuck and drawing too much current.

If it doesn't work on any speed, then I'd suspect the motor - it's easy enough to unclip part of the motor housing (under the bonnet) and see if you can spin the fan (I had an old Escort that had seized up, but freeing it off by hand sorted it).

Had a look, looks like the motors gone, doesn't look like a hard job, and I've found one on ebay. Anything I should be wary of when changing?

Thanks!

yeah, those pesky little spring clips that hold the heater fan box together have a habit of going 'ping' then you never see them ever again, they just dissapear!!! :wonder: or land in the throttle body like they did on mine, then somebody very helpfully put thier foot on the accelerator pedal so i had to fish them out with a magnet..... anyway. be careful

Ok, I've actually taken the whole motor out, just to have a look before I do buy a used/new motor. On the two magnets that spin the coil, it looks like one has become loose. I've put it back on and it now works! :D

But, it eventually becomes loose again, would some kind of glue work to fix it in place?

Thanks again!

Degrease it and use Araldite or similar epoxy based glue

Agreed, with the note that you should use real Araldite, not a 5-minute epoxy, and preferably remove the carbon bushes and give it a quick bake in the oven to cure the glue properly!

Thanks all for your help, turns out it was the spring that pulls the two together, got a new one and all is working.

Thanks again!

when i bought my first pickup about 3 years ago the heater didnt work so to find the motor i removed all the dash to find no fan motor?? popped the bonnet and there it was!! its funny now but at the time i felt like a right **** with the task of re fitting all the dash! whoops :)

just received my order of little bits, I have the resistor here to be replaced but where is the location, is this going to require removing the whole assembly or can I leave it in situ.

If you have car without AC, the resistor pack is in the engine bay, on the right side of the heater box (in the driving direction) - you'll se wiring loom going to it.

With Alex AC its in the same place, but impossible to get except if my hands had 4 joints

Hi Gents,

I swapped out the resistor last night, was fairly easy with the right tools and without having to remove anything. I took the car for a little drive, I did notice that the air was coming through Hot but still it doesn't vary much on different speed settings. I don't know if this is overkill but I'm tempted to use a velocity meter to measure the air speed and see if there is any change. Could it be a possibility that the motor has seized, or the brushes are damaged. If this is the case, how easy is it to get access to the motor, I'm wondering if I could maybe free it up by hand. Has anyone else had any experience of this.
