Outside temp warning

Featured Replies

Hi:

Tell me if I'm imagining this......

I thought when I first got the car that when the outside temp fell below 4C a snowflake warning symbol flashed on the information display AND there was a warning BOING.

Today whilst I was driving I noticed the snowflake flashing out of the corner of my eye, but there was no accompanying warning sound.

Have I managed to turn the sound off (haven't got a clue how - have not been fiddling with any settings) or did I imagine the warning sound in the past?

Car is a standard 2009 FL Octavia Elegance.

AFAIR the bong only sounds as the temperature drops below 4degrees. Was it below this when you started?

I think that's right, sometimes mine 'bongs' - sometimes it doesn't, but I haven't really looked at what the distinction might be.

The manual is open to interpretation on this:

If the outside temperature drops below +4 °C, a snow flake symbol

(warning signal for ice on the road) appears before the temperature indicator

⇒ fig. 7 and a warning signal sounds.

Mine does the same

Correct - if you fire up when the temp shows asbelow 4 degrees, it is already too cold for boinging!!

sometimes on mine the snow flake sign comes up when it's 3 but other times like today 3.5C but no snowflake... more rain? does it know when going to be icy based on water or not? Also you can put the temp on the radio display too, so i can have mpg on car dash and temp on radio (without any snow flake)

Ok moving on a bit what's the coldest it's been down to with you guys, mid jan it got to -13.5C! That's in Southern England.

James.

About -7 and we're on the south coast!

Sounds like I may have a problem. I'm pretty sure the temp was above 4 when I started out (no snowflake) but it came on after driving for about 10 mins but no BOING. From what you guys are saying it should make a warning sound as well in that specific circumstance.

No big deal but irritating on an almost brand new car (Sept 09) - not worth a trip to the dealer.

Many thanks for all the replies.

Bumping this as I'm not boinging and no snowflake on dash. I get flashing temperature on radio and on LCD on dash (no maxidot).

My bong works for everything else though.

mines bongs even when its below 4 when i start up and again when the temp drops to 4 when im driving. coldest we had last winter that i saw was -18c was a chilly morning
