Is it a plain fan unit, or Climatronic running in auto mode?

Mine does it as well, I think it's a failing fan motor tbh.

yep it a climatronic and doe it in auto or manual if it is the fan on way out any one nohow much they r and r they easy to fit

It's normal "climatronic" operation.

The climatronic is a closed loop controller which tries to maintain the selected cabin heat setting. When you start off from cold, there's no point in running the blower fast to heat the car - there's no engine heat and you just blow cold air. The unit "knows" this, and runs the blower slowly. When the engine heats up, the blower speed increases to get heat into the car - until the set point is reached and the climatronic slows the blower.

It all works very well - but it's a really crappy system design. There is no one setting to cover all requirements - if I'm cold and wet I need full heat whatever the climatronic thinks. The trouble is, the way VAG have designed the controls, it's impossible to change anything without taking your eyes off the road.

Setting it at night on a bumpy road is downright dangerous. A rotary kn0b you can get hold of in the dark is what's needed......

yes i can see your point but even when ive been traveling in the car for 1 hour its blowing up and down ever 5/10 seconds its never done this before?ive never had any problems before as u can imagine every 5/10 seconds doing my head in

Finally someone agrees with me about this. Buttons looks very neat and tidy but they're useless. A rotary kn0b or even an electronic dial like that have in Volvos are what's needed. You can whack it right up/down in one swift movement and they're infinitely more controllable in between.

Back on topic, my climatronic does the same thing.

It's not a usual climate problem, I know what he's experiencing and it's either a fan motor or the climate unit, the climate unit is a weak point, can you hear what sounds like a blockage in a fan uit at two bars low speed, like a creak as if something is rubbing the fan blade?

mate wot i here is like a little quick whistle when the fan increases and decreases if i need anew blower apart from skoda do u no were i could get one ?...

If it was a VX I'd say it's the blower regulator and that's like a big relay with a heat sink on it, I'm not sure how the Skoda comes to bits or exactly what the fault is, it makes sense what Roto and all said that it's just maintaining temps, but I think you do have a fault there myself, the Climate units are known to fail, and iirc as long as you don't mind it being another colour or brand you can pretty well use one out of any of the VW family that has one, I know one of the Seat's has an identical unit, due to the cost of the likely culprits I'd recommend you have it looked at by an electrics guy or you could end up buying stuff you don't need.

At a wild guess, this is why it has a "Demist" mode that puts the blower on full speed, and selects full hot (and I suspect full dry as long as the ambient is over +5C).
