Parking Sensor problems? Parking sensors on ebay

Featured Replies

I have found a guy selling 3 parking sensors on E-bay, they are the right number but are used.

Due to having the long bleep on my car I took the plunge and bought a second hand sensor off E-bay because it was less than half the price of the original new,

As I had had this problem before (and having spent £70 on a sensor from a stealer) I had worked out that just by systematically changing the sensors one at time you can pin down the faulty sensor with out having to go to a stealer to charge you to plug a computer on it and tell you the same thing, also the sensors don't have to have a stealer reset them as it would appear that putting the car in and out of reverse just simply powers them up and down.

I was also able to replace the sensors without remoeving the bumper, once you've figured out how they unclip them it can be done in a matter of minutes, except the drivers side one which has a plastic fillet guard that just requires removing and then the access to that one is even easier than the rest.

As the sensors cost so much and then the stealers charge a fortune to replace them as they dont seem to be able to do it without removing the bumper I hope this might save some of you a fair bit of money as it did me. Cheers All

..so long as the 'new' second hand one works properly of course - otherwise you could be there a long time swapping sensors around!

once you've figured out how they unclip them it can be done in a matter of minutes

Could you tell us the best way to undo the clips. I seemed to have a sensor failure a couple of weeks ago, but now they all seem OK, so I'm planning to remove the sensors and re-make the three pin connectors with some WD40 and some silicon grease to keep the water out. Sensors can't repair themselves, so I figure it's probably a water ingress problem with the connectors .... after all, they live in a pretty wet place.

Sure Mate, If you look at the E-bay link on my original post the sensor is sat more or less as it fits in the bumper, on the round part of body of the sensor you can see a retainer on the top, triangular in shape, there is another directly below it, when you feel this inside the bumper they will be on the top and bottom, you simply push the clip up for the top and down for the bottom and the sensor will pull out of the bumper,

The connector is a bit trickier, on the side of the sensor you can't see is another retainer clip, you will feel a small locking mechanism on the plug, you push the clip and pull the plug at the same time, can be done with one hand but a bit tricky but once you worked out one the rest will be easier, hope that was a clear as mud!

there is a thread on here about sensors (well, there's quite a few in total :smirk: ...) but one of the threads includes some great pics of the sensors so you can see exactly how they fit. It was enough for me to be able to get the job done easily.
