Lead Times

Featured Replies

Hi

Would anyone out there who has purchased/ordered a new Skoda Octavia care to comment on their lead times?

I placed my order for an Octavia CR 1.6 Estate with curtain air bags on 8th October 2009, and am still waiting for delivery. Yes - that is the correct date - this month celebrates me waiting 5 months for the delivery of my car, which was to have been delivered in December!

According to the dealer the vehicle was finally built on 12th January, and I've now been waiting almost 2 months for delivery to Northern Ireland.

I'm on the verge of telling them to cancel the order and go to another manufacturer. I have had any number of excuses, the most recent being that Skoda have been flooded with orders for new cars (funny how I have only ever seen ONE new model Octavia on the roads of Belfast!).

Add to that, that the Belfast dealer, Mervyn Stewart, tried to squeeze the full £14k out of me in December, so that I could get it at the VAT free price, and claimed there had been a misunderstanding when I told them to cancel the order and give me my £750 deposit back.

It's really sad that I have now paid off almost 1/6 of my car loan without ever having a car!

Is Skoda going under? Is there a problem with the new CR? Or are Skoda just incompetent?

Any comments out there guys?

This seems a long wait for an Octavia, though there may be high demand for the 1.6tdi throughout the VW group. nevertheless, i wonder if ther ehas been a mix up with your order or whether your car has been allocated to seomone else. the 2 month post build shipping time is the most surprising side of this.

I suggest you firmly ask your dealer to chase your order and in the meantime speak to Skoda customer services

Just been quoted 14 to 19 weeks for a factory order on a 1.8 octy L&K estate............ didn't bother, I would have to buy another car whilst I waited :o

To answer your question, no not incompetant or going under, just can't meet demand, 2 new models out at the same time as a VAT free offer and the scrappage scheme they are snowed out man.

I would guess they will end up like Citroen and find it very hard to end the VAT deal, once it ends they will find it hard to shift metal at full price, the dealer offered me a 09 plate for more money than they wanted for a new one, not that desperate, sorry., and expect the offers will really start to hit retailers and 2nd hand values soon.

Sorry incompetent YES probably

To Niki:

So you finally went with Mervyn Stewart, Belfast or you changed the dealer? My (future, hopefully not too future) car has been ordered on 16/17 of Feb, through Mervyn as well. Wishing it's NOT gonna be a Christmas pressie for me...........

i agree, ordered mine 16th FEB at John Mulholland in Randlstown, im waiting on i too, bu i want it in about 6 weeks, as thats when my fabia will need its next service and probably a new set of tyred, so ild rather not be out that expense.

plus i have a baby due on July 4th

I have just ordered a Octavia Scout 1.8 TSI build week 15, so delivery ist week May 2010, (about 12 Weeks).Fortunately I dont mind since my XTRAIL is A1, just do not need a full off roader. but I do need 4X4 ,Looked at the YETI but it has too small a boot. I have noticed lead times seem to be very varied from model to model..

I ordered a 1.8TSI L&K on the 12 September and was given an end of November delivery deadline. I could have collected at the earliest last week but as the new plate comes out on the 1st March waited an extra week. After waiting so long I was tempted to pick up last week.

I never did get a plausible excuse over why the long delivery time.

I'd have cancelled the order, it was only after I threatened to cancel mine that the dealer changed his stance on when it could be delivered...

I ordered on September 30th and when I called mid November was told that it wouldn't be delivered until mid February I told the dealer he could keep it til March if that was the case and I'd have the 10 plate. He said he wouldn't be able to do that so I said that I'd cancel the order as I'd been told 12-14 weeks for delivery and that if the dealer wasn't prepared to hold onto the car for a couple of weeks when it was being delivered 4 or 5 weeks later than I'd been told by them not quoting me a realistic delivery time then I would order my car from another manufacturer who may be able to tell me the truth...

An hour later I received a call saying that the dealer had "misread" the schedule and the car would be with me mid January at the latest. I collected it on 11th Jan but could have had it on the 8th if I'd been around...

niki.milligan, from reading the various accounts in this and other threads, the whole situation seems variable.

I ordered my corrida red 1.4 TSI SE hatch through the same dealer as you 'from stock' as opposed to a 'build' (ie. no factory options required) and I got it in approximately 4.5 weeks from doing the deal. Good deal, efficient service.

It would have been even faster arriving (from its storage pound somewhere in europe) except transportation of my car was overridden due to re-prioritisation to meet the GB demand for the 10 plate. The dealer eventually had to invoke something called 'forced' transportation.

It may also have something to do with the model / spec. And a dose of good luck.

I would also pick up on what Postman Pat said re. them being 'snowed out'. On the day I collected my new car, there were 3 other 'sold' Octavias de-waxed and ready to roll. The fact that the dealer is moving its service centre half a mile down the road (presumably to make more space for sales) is telling.

Skoda are losing customers because of the rediculous waiting times.

Its about time they woke up and gave customers realistic delivery times

I fear more will just not bother buying
