Skodachrome

Featured Replies

No - not a new transparency film link up between our favourite Czech car company and Eastman Kodak, but a bit of a query....

What aftermarket chrome looks nice on a Skoda, and what just looks a pile of pants?

Clearly it is one of the few points where they can differentiate the brands by giving us pre-facelift Octavia II's with black plastic bumpers and bits, vs. the body coloured trim and chrome accents you would get on an Audi. What aftermarket bits can you get that almost look OEM rather than stick-on tat?

Also, I hear that the Chinese Octavia's have enhanced trim over their European counterparts. Does anyone know what else you would get on a pre-facelift Chinese octy that you wouldn't get on a European one?

Thanks,

Gavin

All awful.

I'm using only tail light chrome strips:

See I think that the Chinese Octavia chrome looks really classy, but I reckon you could never get that effect with the aftermarket stick on strip.

Yes, I think the rear light strips look better than the full "chrome light surround", which I think sticks out too far from teh body to look OEM.

Thanks for posting these pictures.

it looks like something Alan Partridge would like to drive - in driving gloves (the string-backs just give you a bit of extra purchase)

Love the advert... where is it from? Sniff Petrol?

I think it is just unfortunate that they chose to show it on a car that was gold. I think it is the colour of the car that makes the strips look sh1te, not the strips themselves.

Yes it does impart a bit of the Rover 75's; but your Vee Dubs and Audi's all carry a little bit of Chrome well, and having Chrome rather than plastic bumper strips would add to the impossibly smug feeling that there is even less to differentiate between the more expensive motors and their well build economically priced counterpart.

I'm feeling a bit Partridge lately; I've started telling my friends that I like to think of Skoda as the Czechoslovakian Mercedes Benz ;o) Apparently sales in Lexus plummeted when he made that quote.

So is the plural of Skoda, Skodii? :o)

Apparently the Chinese Octavia is called the Ming Rui, but judging by the responses on here, some of you think it is more Ming Ing.

I think it looks more like the facelifited B5 Passat when they decided to cover that with chrome

Not quite.

It was from Viz, many, many years ago.
