Failed MOT :(

Featured Replies

The Octavia failed its MOT this afternoon, apparently the rear pads aren't pressing fully against the discs, resulting in them hardly working at all!

Its going in in the morning to have new rear discs and pads - whats to going rate for this?

It was also noted that one wishbone bush had split - whats the going rate for having this replaced.

Cam belt is due on Friday.....guess what I want to know now - whats the going rate?

Cheers - Mr Skint-to-be.

Which model Octy do you have?

Goochie , I'm afraid to say that if being done at a main dealer , I reckon those three jobs are going to be between

Cambelt will probably be around

Is this your newly acquired Skoda? Did you buy from a Skoda franchise? I believe that if you bought a vehicle covered by the Skoda "Retailer Approved Used Vehicle Programme", it will have a 12 month warranty... :rubchin:

Rob.

As you are in Bicester try giving AmD a call on the repair work.

Im guessing you local dealer is Jewsons.

I'd agree with Ross .............if you have no warranty , then go to an independant garage .........could be a fair bit cheaper than a main dealer .

Or perhaps give Ross a PM !

Gulp.....Mine goes for its MOT this week..............

Steve , I would guess that your car hasn't done the same mileage as Goochie's , if his is due a cambelt change .

My local dealer is actually Merrits in Aylesbury - well, the easiest to get to on a Friday morning/evening anyway.

I wouldnt say that, I'm only changing the cam belt to be safe, and I think 74k is ok for a set of discs.

True I would want the timing belt changed at that mileage as well. Had my wifes one done at 35K but the car was making a squealing noise and the mechanic suspected something to do with the belt. In the end it was just the alternator needing oiled! However I was happy to know the car had a new belt. Car is for sale now as we are getting her a new small car.

Don't like the mainland MoT system. I would get Kwik Fit to do one of their free brake checks to make sure the MoT garage have not failed you just to get work from you. Over here in Northern Ireland the DoE do the tests, therefore they have no reason to fail you unless there really is a problem.

I watched the guy doing the brake test, the front showed up OK on the machine but the rears failed.... the guy was genuinely suprised so did the test again at the end of the MOT - failed again.

I looked at the discs myself and they do look badly worn.

Either way they'll need to be done at some point in the not too distant future so there's no time like the present.

I would NEVER go to KwikFit to get a professional or second opinion, or for any other reason whatsoever.
