Im a Bit Confused

Featured Replies

Ok i'm a bit perplexed ( and it does take a lot Pete/Simbo/Bryan before you start ) as to the differences between the R36 Passat and the Skoda Superb 3.6 V6

Both Cars have 260lb/ft Torque.

The Passat has 296PS

The Superb has 260PS

Passat Kerb Weight 1689Kg

Superb Kerb Weight 1724Kg

So thats a 35Kg saving for the Passat and it has 36PS more

So how on Earth does that equate to the car being a second quicker to 62Mph.

The rough rule of thumb is approx 50bhp for every half second. So with the Weight saving and the extra power i would expect MAX half a second quicker. As the cars both have identical torque at the same point in the Rev range Both have the Same DSG box and both have launch control. So is the Superb actually quicker than it states or are VW massaging the figures slightly.

All stats on the cars are taken Direct from the brochure for each car.

I'm confused as to why you're even asking

Because i am looking at purchasing either in the near future and was wondering if there really was a difference or if Skoda are forced by VAG to state the car has less power than it actually does.

Pile of French Tat

Would rather drive round in a Reliant Robin.

How about gearing, drag factor, wheel weight. The Superb may have to change gear to get to 60 whereas the Passat may not. Not sure if it's correct but just some thoughts.

Thats about the only set of plausible explanations i've heard so far. But even so a Second quicker is a lot

Is there a difference in wheel/tyre spec that could make a difference ?

  • Author

Both have 18" Wheels so not really

Carl

Tyre pressure difference , tyre make , temp on the day , aerodynamics ?
