retro fit cruise control Octavia II

Featured Replies

Where are you trying to code it?

Was hoping to follow this advice:

01 - engine > Coding II > write the software coding 11463.

But that was a no go - as coding II was greyed out, so had a look at long coding, using the helper and realised I didn't know what I was doing.

Current coding is  00 11 40 14 03 05 000 80000

Surfing the net seems to suggest that I need to change one of those numbers. Up to now I've only used VCDS for scanning and deleting codes.

You need to open the long coding helper, scroll through the bytes and check the cruise control box. Then exit and the new code will save.

Tech1e: Great stuff. Confirms what I was reading.

So I know I'm not braking up the wrong tree. Think I'll pop out now and give it a shot - 10:30 on a Saturday night seems like a perfectly normal time to be out tinkering with the car  :notme: . Anyway thanks for responding at such an anti social hour!

Mmmm. Feel like I'm on the edge of glory - no cruise control just yet.

So far have swapped out a faulty 5k0953569/C for a 5K0953569 (no initial after the 569).

Which according to my reading of  wiki.ross, should meet my needs, has cruise control (I’m not bothered about MFSW).

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions

After swapping out the control modules, I coded VCDS.

In the engine coding the dropdown “20 Cruise Control System (CCS) Installed” is coded.

In the steering coding the dropdown “10 Cruise Control controlled via Turn Signal Lever” is coded.

I coded last night and checked this morning to ensure I had coded it correctly.

Modules look the exact same apart from reset/trip buttons

In sum, have swapped out the one-piece control modules (attached to stalks)

have coded the  engine and steering via VCDC. No cruise control.

Any ideas - am I missing something obvious? Thanks for reading.

What version does vcds reckon it is? Was it a brand new module?

It's a used module. VCDS in controller info is showing 5K0 953 521 AN.

The module itself, had 3 stickers on showing part numbers 5K0953569 5K0953521/AN  as well as   5K0953502/L

Cheers

The ross tech wiki suggests if it is an original unit then it should be ok, but it could be a later one not listed.

Can you post the full section from the vcds log?

the other information was

Shop # Imp: 790 WSC 33361

Extra: Geraet 00999

Is that the log information you are referring to or do I need to do something else?

Just copy and paste the whole steering controller section from the log.

is there a layman's translation for this?

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm kinda new to all this but have been thinking about adding CC to my '07 Mk2 (Non FL) Octy 1.9 PD Classic Estate for some time as I do a lot of motorway miles.

I Have VCDS but only used it to diagnose an engine fault (Throttle Position Sensor).

I've not done any coding but am confident to tackle this after reading this thread.

I have a 1K0 953 549 BB steering module. From this page;

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions

I don't think this module will allow CC to be retrofitted and therefore I need to upgrade the module but I'm not sure about this.

Please can someone advise if I need to upgrade my Steering module and if so, what to and also which stalk module I need to get?

This is the text from the steering module from my last scan;

Many thanks

James.

  • 2 months later...

Good day

Looking to retrofit cruise control to my 2009 Octavia 1z5 1.6 75kw and looks like I need a new control module also. Part no that i have is 1K0953549BM lowline.

Does the control module software level need to be the same or it does not matter?

Also can someone inform me if i got the wire or not for the retrofit. Thanks for replies.

Here is the picture of the wiring harness:

  • 5 years later...

Sorry for replying at this old topic, but my clockspring just broke, so I am thinking about my options. My Octavia is first month of 2013, last Octavia 2 produced...

It has mfsw but no cruise control. The clockspring is numbered 5K0953569a.

As I can see here, my module supports mfsw, is highline varriant but does not support cruise control.

Control Module Part Number Variant Steering Angle Sensor MFD CCS/ACC MFSW AT PQ46 ESCL
5K0-953-569A Highline No Yes No Yes Yes -

I read before, that highline variants can support cruise control, but I am not sure.

My options are

1) Solder the ribbon cable and everything works as before.

2) Solder the ribbon cable and get a switch with cruise control option and code it to work like this (if my controller can do that).

3) Buy a new one that supports cruise control, buy the switch too and code all to work. (if it is possible)

I have vcds, I will do the coding myself.

Thank you all.

  • 3 weeks later...

Bump, I manage to solder the ribbon back, so everything works as before.

For my octavia 2 fl, year 2013 with Control Module Part Number nr 5K0-953-569A, can I just replace the swithes, code it and it will work? The cruise control I mean.

Or it is snot possible?

Thank you.
