Volvo C30

Featured Replies

The in-laws turned up today in their new C30. Nice car, but look at the gap in the rear arch! It was sold to them as being 'quite sporty'.

I measured it and there is 70mm between top of tyre and the arch. I'll never look at the Octy again and think that it needs lowering.

That's on 17" wheels isn't it?

Presumably that's to allow the optional extra 22" chrome plated wheels to fit...

Yeah, it's on 205 50 17s. Perhaps I should have a word with them and suggest the 22" option....

It's the 2.0d, so I guess your answer might be "Not very". :giggle:

Also, just before they left, they informed me that even though it's a week old a sensor had to be replaced under warranty. Mother in law said a soot emissions sensor - she didn't quite know really. Doesn't say much for Volvo reliability though.

They traded in a V50 which in the four years they had it, I counted it went in over ten times for faults to be sorted. They still won't listen to me when I try to tell them that our trusty old Skoda has been far less trouble. I think we've got badge snobs in the family.

Hahaha, that arch gap is incredible. :giggle:

all Ford bits on a Peugeot engine, so what did they expect

They believe, seeing as they have had Volvos since - well, forever- that they are still the same as the cars of old. The only thing that remains really is the badge. They won't be swayed at all.

I've got a father in law like that...if it's not got Vauxhall on the tin, it's probably not a Vauxhall in the tin. Sounds like one too. He never buys anything else. His brother though, has been converted away from the griffin to Skoda.

probably still got the transit pasckers in thhe springs lol!

probably still got the transit packers in the springs lol!

they only have those fitted on the front springs

although not always removed at PDI, found them still fitted a few times at the first service

only the xc90 is a true 100% Volvo now

Pug derv engines were good when they fitted them with Lucas or Bosch Injection systems.

FWIW, do you think they'd notice if you got it slammed ;)

I don't think they would to be honest. My father in law is so not into cars it's unbelievable. He is also that Volvo driver who does 43mph in a National Speed Limit, then reduces that to about 21mph in a 30 zone. Quite frustrating. He once turned onto a dual carriageway on the wrong side with us all in the car - a big old 7 seater Volvo estate - and was confused by the headlights coming towards us.. :S

Nice bloke though.

Have Ford sold off Volvo?

Have Ford sold off Volvo?

Not sure. I thought it was a Focus platform, but then ric04vrs said it's a Peugeot engine, so other than the styling what actually is done by Volvo?

Volvo brand has been sold to a Chinese firm, but IIRC that isn't including the tech.

We shall see what happens, but I wouldn't buy anything that affected my safety that was made in china.

Hmmm didn't know that Volvo had been flogged off to the Chinese. Will have to wait and see what happens but both Volvo and Saab not a shadow of their former self in my opinion. Think how exciting the 850 was at launch in terms of ability. The latest cars just appear humdrum and overpriced. The Skoda Supurb estate trounced the V70 for value and ability when Autocar put them back to back for example.

The arch gap looks big in the pics but the car looks to be riding quite low.
