Speedometer, Rev Counter, fuel&cooling malfunctioning

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Quick description of the problem:

While driving yesterday from work I've noticed that all of my indicators are not working properly. My speedometer, rev counter, fuel display and engine temperature pointers where not moving (where at start/off position) then after few seconds they all started working again. It happens few times and in some cases pointers where not working for 3-5 minutes.

They all been moving up and down together which suggests that It's caused by one faulty component/fuse? (I guess ;)

The engine and the rest of the electrical equipment are/where fine (radio, lights)

Any suggestions what can it be?, is it very serious/expensive to fix?

Thx in advance

Cheers,

Mck

Seems to be quite a common issue. I think there is a voltage regulator on the dash circuit board which might have a dry joint. I think you have a search on here, you will find that if you pull out a certain fuse (can't remember which one), then the gauges, etc will work, but the trip memory will be reset each time the ignition is turned off.

Expensive yes, if you change the whole dash circuit board, as I think the keys are paired to it.... again a search should give the answers.

yes, its a common problem. it is possible to get the dashpod repaired rather than replaced and if you are electronically inclined its possible to DIY fix it. There are several companies that can repair your current cluster if you send it to them, obviously whilst its being fixed you cannot use the car.

I've just bought a 99 octavia and have the same issue. Thank you very much for posting the link. Do the items highlighted simply need resoldering due to a dry joint or do these components need replacing? I should be putting this fault right this week one night. I might take some pics and do a "how to guide"
