Changing Octy vRS for Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 05 Plate Octavia VRS Estate, which I am currently conteplating changing as going to be doing more miles with work so think a little Diesel Runaround would be better for the Job.

Looked today at a 54 Plate Fabia VRSl, which is basically the same money as ?I will get for my Octy. both have approx. 49K on the clock

Am I making the right decision? It does seem that carwise I'm losing out a bit hopefully the MPG of the Fabia should make it a bit weasier to swallow.

Are the Fabia's a good reliable machine, my Octy hasn't put a foot wrong since I've had it.

Fabias are just as reliable as Octavias, preffered the power delivery and torque of the fabia to the octy personally but of course there is a lot less space. On the plus side it will possibly half your fuel bill and tax bill. Fabias are holding their money well and the vRS was never discounted unlike the Octy 1.8 vrs which could be had new at the end of its product run for the same if not less cash than a fabia.

Is your octy vrs a diesel?

It's a MkI so petrol 1.8T

As long as you are Ok with the downsizing you should save loads on fuel bills.

TBH you only lose boot space!

Good move if you need to save money on fuel etc!

The Fabia won't be anywhere as fast as the Octy, But as a comparison here's 2 trips myself and Littlejohnny completed last year

Edinburgh to Irlam, Manchester (Awesome GTi) in the Octy took 3/4 of a tank with a £45 refill before we headed back!

Edinburgh to Irlam. (3 runs on Awesomes rolling road) then a fast drive over to Driffield E.Yorks (To pick up the above mentioned Octy) then A1 north, Refilled with £50 of Diesel at Asda Gateshead, Low fuel light had only just come on!

A couple of times I managed to leave Johnny (Overtaking a line of traffic) but he soon caught up!

There's not as much difference between the two as you'd think up to 60 mph.

i agree, a cheeky remap from the fabia and you will see a minor difference if anything 0-60. But, thats not what your asking......

I have been using a 180 Audi TT for the last week as my fabia is having a new turbo fitted. Bloody hell it drinks fuel compared to the fabia and in my opinion the extra fuel costs dont even come close to compensating little if any extra performance for the money. most of my miles have been on the motorway and on more than one occasion i have found the TT lacking when asking for a change of speed....

The only real difference will be top speed, and how often

do you get near that in this day and age? :)

Hi All,

Thanks for the Replies, has settled my mind a bit, will miss the practicality of the Octy but like I said hopefully the Fuel economy of the Fabia will make up for it.

Goatboy is meant to be round shortly, sounds a good lad so hopefully he will buy the Octy, if not I think I will just keep it.

Right Guy's,

Thanks for the Info.

Goatboy placed a deposit on the Octavia VRS and is picking it up tomorrow night.

Have agreed a deal on a 54 Reg Fabia which I will pick up on Thursday after they do the Cambelt and Waterpump.

JUst hope I've made the right decision as the Octavia was spot on, not a thing wrong with it.

I am sure you have made the right desision. I have a MK1 Octy VRS and I bought my wife a Fabia VRS...

The only problem is that I havent let her drive it yet. For most of my driving the Fabia VRS beats the Octy VRS - B roads and rush hour traffic, The Octy obviously wins on space and not sounding like a tractor but as everyone has said I reccon it is saving me at least £20 per week.

The one thing I can guarantee is it will leave a grin on your face everytime you drive it.

Cheers Tim,

Hope you are right, Octavia went last night and now can't get my Fabia until Friday as going to take them a bit longer to do Cambelt, Waterpump, Tyres and sort a couple of small scratches out.

Thanks again for the replies lads.

Always worth the wait to get things done properly... especially the cambelt! :)
