fuel pump burnt?

Featured Replies

Hi since putting my car on gas ive forgot to put petrol in even though the lights come on. Last night it refused to start i just about got it going and then it switched to gas i put petrol in but then it wouldnt start up at all. Just started on gas now this morning it wouldnt even start on gas. Checked the fuel pump fuse and it was ok.

My dad reckons the fuel pumps gone. Is it easy to put a new one in and how come it dont start up on gas now could it be because its too cold?

No idea about the rest of it, but yes one of the problems with LPG is that it can be hard to make a car start on it.

so now you have petrol in the tank when you open the drivers door do you hear the fuel pump priming? if yes then it may just be a case of turning the engine over till the fuel gets through the lines again. If you can not hear the fuel pump running you can try giving it a tap with a spanner as sometimes they can stick.

Wheres the fuel pump?

Flip up the rear seats and you'll find a round black metal cover. It's under there, mounted in the tank.

So if I open the metal cover up, and whack it with a spanner or something while someone attempts to start it do you think it mite just start up? I hope I aint burnt it out, i remember the car feeling weak on petrol like almost dying so i switced it to gas, then at the next start up it died but at the re attempt it worked and i switched to gas straight away. last attempt it just started after 15-20 minutes of turnin the key and giving gas on petrol then it swiched to gas after the car heated up. note that halfway through this attempt i put in about a quarter litre of water in the petrol tank... could this have perm damaged the pump? then after that i drove it to the petrol station put in petrol but it never started on petrol after that, only on gas. this morning it wouldnt start on gas either.

So what do you guys reckon is wrong?

You should scan for error with vag com and post it here.

I have LPG installed in my car and I always keep at least 25% petrol in the tank.

On the driver side, there is a black hose which is for fuel is connected to metal tube near the TB, disconnect that and turn the ignition key.

If the fuel start to come out then your fuel pump is OK., but just in case test your petrol fuel system with a pressure fuel gauge.

Should be around 2.5-2.8 bar at idle.

u mean this hose is in the engine compartment? tb=throttle body?

mine will only start on petrol then switches over to gas when the engine temp is correct (only 2-3miles)

Yes, I think the outlet to the fuel tank is mark by a arrow showing the flow direction (metal tube), the black rubber hose is attached to metal tube.

Dunno about the petrol, but the diesels are not self priming, so when you change for instance the fuel filter it takes loads of cranking to get it to start. I normally fill the filter with fuel to help it on its way.

you can tap it from under the car I think. I had a problem before and thought I had a fuel delivery problem (there was no fuel to be delivered :giggle: ) but the process the tech went through included checking the fuel pump and giving it a tap.
