Tyres? wrong siz or not and if so what is right size

Featured Replies

HI all,

I have a skoda fiaba Comfort 68bhp 2000 and I have found some information on my tyres can you help.

The size of tyre is 180/60 R14 82H and theses are expensive.

When I went to Kwick fit, there are 165/60 R14 T rate and can I change the tyre to them.

The car cannot got over 120 miles hr.

IF you can help it would be brill. many thanks for your time

Andrew

The recommended tyre size is 185/60/14 82H - if you change either the load index (82) or the speed rating rating (H) you run the risk of invalidating your insurance and come MOT your car may fail due to incorrect tyres being used

Stick with the proper size. I've just been on www.blackcircles.com and prices are around £40 to £50 each (fitted) for good branded tyres which doesn't seem that bad.

If the speed index is higher its fine, lower... its not, regardless of you actually doing those speeds.

I'd assume the same for load index too.

Don't skimp on tyres there what keep you ON the road!

I agree with that, it's the same with Brakes, Never skimp on them.

Vredestien Hi-Tracs are very good. They won the Auto-Express tests a few years ago in that size. The only problem is they can be hard to get hold of.

You are wrong on both counts.

The correct tyre size is 185/60/R14 (Not 180)

These tyres are not expensive, they are very cheap.

Mytres are doing Nankang RX615 in the correct size for your car at £32 each including V.A.T. & delivery.

Unless, of course, you find £32 too expensive for a new tyre, in which case a bus pass would probably be more appropriate for you.

I don't object to you risking your own life to save money by fitting the wrong sized tyres, but I do resent that you endanger the lives of others.

Bob.

Well there's your first mistake!

As mentioned, a fitted price from Blackcircles on some branded rubber would be a MUCH, MUCH better (and cheaper) resolution. Stick to the same load rating (82) but the speed index can be equal or higher than those currently fitted.
