Yeti engine problems

Featured Replies

Hi....I am looking for some help. My dad recently purchased a new 2.0L 140 diesel Yeti and from day one there is a horrible noise coming from the engine like a clunking noise. It is only there when the engine is really cold and it will go away when you put the clutch down or the car heats up. I must stress that it sounds terrible. My dad contacted Skoda about it and they changed the flywheel but the problem is still there. The dealers demo car is the exact same and sounds shocking when started up. Basically they are saying that Skoda are aware of the problem but are saying it is a characteristic of the car. My dad is ready to hand the car back as appatently skoda cant fix this as its the only fly wheel they have.

Has anyone else heard or experienced the same problems....any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is noisy on a cold start but soon settles down and is very smooth when warm.

My attitude is that there is a 3 year guarantee on the car so any problems will be sorted - even if it means a new engine. If Skoda know about the problem the they may do a recall.

I have driven my 2,0 TDI around 6000km now with at least one cold start every day. This winter has been VERY cold, and we have had temps around -20 C frequently. I haven't heard any noises that isn't supposed to be there from the engine in my car.

I have driven quite a few 2,0 Yetis at work as well, and never heard of this "known problem" . If the noise disapears when the clutch is stepped down, my guess would be gears in the gearbox making noise when they are not under load.

The main dealer are claiming that it is a fly wheel problem and it is wobbling. When it heats up the grease around the wheel expands and it goes away.......but when its cold it sounds horendouse to the point the dealer agrees that there mat be a problem....

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your issues.

My Yeti has the 140Tdi and it is significantly quieter on start up from cold than my previous car that had the 170Tdi PD engine.

As previously sated if the noise goes away wen the clutch is dipped, this isn't an engine problem but something in the rest of the drive(gearbox would be my guess) and certainly needs sorting out.

Best of luck.
