Panoramic Sunroof Or Not ?

Featured Replies

The sun-blind on my Yeti has never closed during the night after disabling the "rain-close" function in the Maxi-Dot menu.

I have never read about the feature that closes the blind depending on outside temperature, and I'm not even sure such a feature exists..

The "rain-close" feature closes windows, panoramic roof (only if tilted open) and sun blind if it detects rain OR after 12 hours.

Try disabling the rain-close, and let us know what happens.

  • Hello, If I may say, it's surely very nice to have a sunroof (especially) on a Yeti. It costs a lot (1.070 € in Italy) but car interior becomes brighter and more confortable (..my opinion). It's on

It is the green option to have a sunroof and it will save you fuel!!! I have one on my A2 and I will never ever be without one. Let me explain why it will save you fuel: warm air rises when you park a car. Thus if you leave your sunroof open with a slight tilt the warm air can escape leaving you MUCH cooler in summer and means you use LESS air-con to cool it down - hence being green. The difference in temperature when I get back to my car with the roof closed and open on a sunny day is HUGE.

You will also see that cars like the Scirocco, the Passat CC and the BMW 6-series have sunroofs that can't slide back BUT they can tilt by 2 inches or so. That is for exactly this reason, to keep the car cool on a warm day.

The manual does state that the sunroof will close if it starts to rain BUT only if you have a rain sensor. So standard on Elegance but an optoin on everything else. You can disable this in the Maxidot if need be.

To add to that you also get the airiness etc, but that to me is just a bonus to having a cooler car in the summer.

Very true but you can remotely open all the windows using the key pa. If you do leave the sun roof open you will need to disable the interior alarm as it will go off with any gust of wind.

Nope it won't. I have been leaving mine open for years on the A2 and the alarm has never gone off. We are not talking leaving the roof retracted and open, we are talking leaving it on tilt and open for only about a centimeter or so...

I leave the roof open but the blind closed - let's the air out, and keeps any birdmuck / FOD out !

First thing I tried was turning off the rain-close option in Maxidot. And the car is parked under a car-port anyway. Anyway, I've left the blind open again this afternoon, will see if it's closed again tomorrow morning. Although I can't find anything in the manual about this "feature".

When I decided the yeti was my next car subject to drive etc I really wanted the panoramic roof it's great looking adds more light and desirable to look at.

But on consideration the lifespan damage factor and downtime need a thought too

1.Its not going to be on the shelf if it's damaged

2.it's going to cost a fortune as it needs specialist fitting etc

3.How long will the car be off the road for.

4.Will the replacement be as good as the factory fit (you know what happens with windscreens sometimes autoglass had three attempts on the wifes peugeot

5.have you tried to leather the middle of the yetis roof after cleaning , try making that glass smear free

I travel twenty plus thousand miles a year and on my golf I had two windscreens and a roof respray due to damage on motorways in 4 years , once even a truck wheelnut went throught the windsreen

It is also worth checking with your Insurance Company over what they will cover. Several I have spoken to will NOT include them under Windscreen Cover, so you could end up paying a bigger excess to get one replaced.

One thing about the sunroof is that the alarm doesn't go off when the blind does its stealth closing trick when the interior of the YETI starts to cool off, so the sensors must be looking the other way or switch off when the blind moves.

Still don't know if the blind auto-closes when it gets hot inside!

Well, the temperature only dipped to 7c last night, and the blind was still open this morning. So, I need to see what happens on a colder night, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around 5-6c that triggers the blind to close. Wish there was a way to stop it auto-closing, as for many months our night-time temperature is below 7c. :(

Hettie joined the family on 17th March. We have made two trips to Devon since and had the sunroof open on both. It is the best sunroof we have had, lots of fresh air and sun whilst the fabric windbreak and high roof almost eliminate drafts. Good to have, if a bit pricey.

This may be the case for your A2 but I had to disable the internal sensors on my X-Trail before leaving either the roof or the windows open. It will depend on the sensitivity of the internal sensors and on the pressure changes inside the car due to wind. You have just been lucky with your A2.

Well I'll only know in 20 weeks! As that is how long I have bargained on waiting for my Yeti. emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif If it comes any sooner I'll be happy. How long does it normally take before the dealer confirms the build week?

It's obviously not a Yeti but there has been the odd report of an 'exploding' sunroof on the VW Eos and it may not be covered under warranty. See Eos Sunroof.

I'm about to order a Yeti and am keen on a Panoramic Sunroof. Does anyone know if the sunroof (with blind closed) would make the interior hotter in the summer - I'm concerned about leaving a dog in the car for short periods in bright sunshine and I know the blind only provides partial shade.

Don't do it in any car. With or without a sunroof.

I suspect it would make it a touch hotter but not a massive difference.

Please do not leave a dog in the car with the windows closed. Same goes for children.

If your dog or children no not stay in the car with the windows fully open, taken them with you or leave them at home. Too many dogs and babies have been cooked left in a closed car.

Now for your question. I did not select a sun roof. The interior is still nice an bright and I do not regret the decision.

Thanks all for your advice - I totally agree about not leaving dog in a car but there are certain occasions where it is unavoidable for short periods (e.g. for 10 minutres in the shade with windows ajar) but I had a concern that the panoramic sunroof could cause the temperature to rise dramatically in a very short space of time. I've decided against it to be safe.

It's difficult for any UK-living YETI owners to answer your question so far - it hasn't been hot enough! The blind isn't quite 'solid' but isn't far off. On the few hottish days we've had I haven't found the inside particularly hot.

Today was the inaugural drive with the roof fully open. Even at 70mph there was no hair ruffling (well there wouldn't have been if I had any... emoticon-0124-worried.gif ), just the wind whistling through the wind breaker, could still hear the music no problem. Wonderful roof! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

See my post on previous page (#27). Are people not reading?! Leaving the roof on tilt will make it MASSIVELY cooler inside the car in the summer and perfect to leave a dog in the car.

Hi All,

Sorry to break up the diversion on doggies in cars

But just to confirm that the sun blind DOES come across automatically.

Twice this week I have left my car parked in the drive with the blind open, temp has dropped down to below 5 deg C overnight and in the morning the blind has been closed. Bit spooky at first but clearly it wasn’t me.

Today I left the car outside the office in the morning with the sunroof closed and blind open. Sunny all morning, came out at lunch time and the blind was closed and car was pleasantly warm inside but not baking.

Cheers, :)

The important thing is, Park Assist and a sunroof must go together - open sunroof, select Park Assist, hands out of sunroof, allow car to park, watch pedestrians stare in amazement . . . .

Well worth the money.
