cloning - where's the Octavia's VINs?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

There was a program today on the BBC1 day time TV - ok I watch via iplayer not that sad! - about cloning cars.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rgh6s/Fake_Britain_Fake_Cars/

So my question is where is are VIN numbers? bar the one on the window. eg what side underneath etc thought this would be useful to ask and people to answer

James.

Under the scuttle panel on the driver's side near the suspension strut if I remember correctly is where it's stamped into the chassis?

Well, the MK2 anyway...

its also on the data sticker under the carpet in the boot. if the sticker is missing then I'd be concerned anyway.

Also at the end of program they talked about fake service books and buying on net, and you guessed ebay are flogging right now one for a 2009 Octavia, eg with blank service book for only £13. I reported to ebay, not going to post listing hear but you find quite easily on there with the words "skoda service book".

It really brings it home, does't it? Just goes to show you should keep invoices from all work done in the car too.

James.
