First proper clean of 2010!

Featured Replies

What a state it was, last proper clean from me being back in August/October last year and more or less been left or given to the hand car wash to sort out over winter.

Started out with the wheels, bilberry wheel cleaner sprayed and left on wheels for a few minutes, brushed with a horsehair brush and then sprayed off with the jet wash. No wheel sealant left so are left un-protected at this time!

On to the body, my foam lance just will not work at the minute for whatever reason has to go careful and wash with Zymol auto bathe with the usual wash mitt, two bucket and grit guard method.

Then managed to get through 150g of clay getting off all the tar, sap and other unpleasantries! The condition of the paint was absolutely horrific couldn't believe how rough it got!

Then repeated the wash process just to get off any dirt particles that were laying loose on the body since the claying.

Due to it being rather cold I skipped the Zymol HD Clense, plus I wanted to get down to cheddar for some shots before the day was up! So was on with the usual Auto glym super resin polish which covered up a few swirls my car now has since the winter period (debating getting another Dual action or rotary polisher for the summer).

Once that was done I set about waxing the car with R222 carnuba wax.

With the paint done set about doing the very little trim with auto glym bumper care (green gel), really like this product as it gives a great durable finish and wipes right off the paint without smearing it or going greasy.

The exhaust, well, what a pain getting that from soot black to silver again! Still far from perfect but again was wanting to get the worst of it off, i'll leave the major clean till it gets a bit warmer!

For the windows I simply used auto glym glass polish as its the only product I find that doesnt actually smear the windows!

Then to finish up just a bit of chemical guys VRP on the wheels. Gives a clean but standard finish to the wheel rubber without being horrendously shiney like a lot of other tyre products!

An here is the finished article, camera doesn't really pick up the paint finish that well especially with the reduced photo sizes but hey, its an excuse to put some pictures up none the less!

Don't remember posting anything about wanting to be a photographer? Thanks for your concern though.

Silver never looks amazing when polished, I always found my old silver car looked clean but never stunning... however black is awesome but a pain to keep clean!

Good job! :)

Tell me about it! Best you can do is make it look as if its slightly wet and smooth!

I used to own a black C2, terrible car but like you say absolute pain to keep clean, but when it was clean, it really was clean!

An thanks :)

Nice car buddy - when you said you'll save the 'major' clean till it gets a bit warmer - all that work sounds like a pretty major clean to me. Nice photos too - pay no attention to Mr. Hunt. As for the exhaust - try a brillo pad dipped in some warm water buddy - it's a bit unorthodox but it brings it up lovely and shiny and removes all traces of soot - see below!

Will certainly give that a try, does it leave any fine scratches on the exhaust though? Thanks for the comments and might I just add your cars looking stunning!

Will have a look now, came along last year but was rather late due to going out the night before so didn't really mingle with anyone!

Yeah most likely autosol, I generally use autosol although currently have some autoglym stuff which tbh seems the same but with a slightly higher price for a smaller amount!

Nice result. Good location for photos too

Brillo pad is good on the exhaust, then I tend Autosol or Brasso over the top to smooth out the finish.

Steve

That's it - Autosol :)

Was a long day...

NFox - Thanks very much mate.

Brillo pads do leave extremely fine scratches on the exhaust - but I only use it on the bit around the holes if you get my meaning - that's the bit that gets most caked in soot. The rest of the exhaust I just wash and polish as normal.

No problem at all :)

Yeah I see what your saying, that is after all the most difficult part by far!

Its Cheddar Gorge, never seen anyone climbing it however see people climb burrington combe, which runs parallel with it, all the time. I'd imagine they do climb it though :)

An thanks :)

good pics

Thankyou
