After Market Columbus Unit, Where can i buy?

Featured Replies

Hi All

While i am waiting for delivery of my new superb i have really been thinking i should have ordered a columbus but was out of budget at the time of order....

I can see some for sale on ebay but would be worrird about buying one there....

The questions i have are as follows......

1. Do i need to buy just a columbus or GPS antanae as well

2. I am getting the bolero ith bluetooth prep in the superb on order, If i buy a columbus do i need to change the blue tooth as well? (as the columbus uses rsap)

3. Is there anywhere in the UK or Ireland i can travel to and buy one and have it professionally installed?

Any help appriciated Guys!

This company came highly recommended, OEM Retrofits.co.uk as i am thinking of having the columbus fitted in mine

?

You will need to get the GPS reciever as neither the superb or octy has one unless a nav unit is already fitted. The hockey puck style ones are fine, and in the case of the octy its possible to mount it under the dash in the centre without any impact on gps reception. Depending on where you buy a receiver maybe included in the price. Soucing a unit outside ebay is possible, for example from oemretrofits.

Fits in the superb II, but bit tighter fit (done retro fit on octavia which had a lot more room under the dash).

Thanks for all the replies guys!, the prices for these units seem to be all over the place on ebay!, i have been warned of some "clone" units doing the rounds!

The clones are easy to spot, they typically have more than one SD card slot on the front.

Pioneer Avic F9110BT Navigation is worth a look :-)

shop around and you can get one new for about £950

Currently, have a Pioneer HD3-BT (with new maps) with iPod dock and Reverse camera in my Sorento - It's been a great unit, never failed and will be missed... it's going into my old's car.

Saying this, looking forward to the perfect fit of the Columbus 'nav in our new Superb!

Al.

I recently got a Columbus fitted at OEM Retrofits in Bradford (although they will come out and fit on the M1/M62 corridor if necessary). I can't recommend them highly enough - they were great and did a very professional job. The only thing to be sure of is that you/they order the right unit. You'll need a 3TO unit (i.e. the serial number starts 3TO). This ensures that all the steering wheel functions work, as well as the heating display and reversing sensors. As long as you tell them that when you order everything should be fine.

All in all it cost me £550 to change, and then I sold my old bolero unit for £300 - can't get better than that really!

Nooooo

Really?

I think they are reconditioned units from the factory (or reconditioners)..... certainly they are the genuine article, as mine actually says skoda and columbus on it...

NoooooReally?

Why not? There are always plenty on there for sale. I'm not saying they are from there but it wouldn't be hard to buy from there and sell them on would it?

What other sources are there? They are very rare in scrapyards and breakers.

Mine came from the 'bay and it's genuine. Do they come from the factory? Hmm I guess the honest answer is that we don't know.

If you buy a cheap Columbus from ebay, there is a very high probability that you are financing criminals and helping perpetuate the miserable steal, crack, sell cycle. Columbus's are now being targeted by thieves in the UK. The cost of the stolen unit itself isn't the biggest problem - the real problem is the damage done to the cars in the process.

This has all been discussed several times. I am unfortunately an owner of an Ebay "refurb" Columbus that turned out to be stolen.

I figured most of them on ebay were snatched!

Honestly im going to get the crowd in the UK mentioned above to supply and Fit, I dont want to assist pikies in making a living stealing units from cars!

I think we deduced some time ago that oemretrofits units come from the same dodgy sources as ebay sellers. Indeed one user bought a unit from an apparently unrelated ebayer and was directed to collect it from oemretrofits!
