Featured Replies

Morning all just had my 2nd child (a boy) the wifes car is a fiat multipla jtd  had this for a year only paid £250 thats why i got it her. I say her i use it for work 5 days a week and the skoda at weekend ;) . anyway back to the question what would u buy for £2000 would prefer an estate. been looking at passats any one have any views or owning experiance? thanx chris

Mondeo, Focus, Astra, Vectra, Octavia.

Nothing German - Too expensive

Nothing French - It'll break.

for the money got to agree Mondeos are very good, you may be lucky and get a pre facelift B5 passat and as long as they have had regular oil the diesels are good. Not a fan of Astras and Vectras (have seen too many of them on fire :D) However! you might be able to get a good Octavia at that price, just depends what you need from it most?

French cars are OK as long as you pay £250 for them - run them for a year with no problems and then sell for £300 Like I have in the past :D

to get a twin buggy in thats why an estate mind u the octavia boot is big

For under 2 grand you're really looking at a Ford or a Vauxhall I reckon.

Anything Jap, Skoda/VW/Audi or any other German make is going to be too expensive or if it's under £2000 it'll be a 15 year old heap with a million miles on the clock.

Bit of a random one this but what about a Rover 75 estate or MG ZT-T? They can be had with 70-80k on the clock for around £2000 and as long as you don't buy one with a 1.8 K -Series engine you shouldn't have any bother.

Hyundia trajet, we've got one. Its a 7 seater and all rear 5 seat can be removed making it bigger than most small vans.

Have to agree to a certain extent as I've always had french cars, including 2 saxo's I currently own, but the beauty of them is when they do go wrong they are very cheap and very easy to fix.

I've done most of the maintenence work on mine for the last 5-6 years and taught myself from reading forums and a certain amopunt of trial and error and common sense.

One car you could consider as a cheap runner on that basis is a 406 estate with the 110 HDi engine.

For £2k I'd be buying the cleanest 406 HDI I could find. Anything VAG will be leggy at this money.

If I had no car id get a mk1 vrs, I paid 2160 for my 02 plate, 73k, fsh. 2 owners.
