Car not arrived.....does the dealer know?

Featured Replies

Should my dealer be able to tell me exactly the date when my car will arrive?

I've been getting "it's due any day" for the last 2-3 weeks but still no joy. Every time I ring I just get the line that they have a list of which cars are meant to be arriving but until it rolls of the truck they just don't know.

Or having a dubious mind is it just conspiracy tactic while the dealer retouches all the paintwork from some damage that occurred during shipping???? (please don't add to my paranoia)

Any views welcome.

Also, bearing in mind my 2nd point what's a good check list to go over when picking up the new machine. (should it ever arrive)

Thanks!

I honestly dont think they do know, or it is so hard to track/check that they dont.

That, or it is in case it gets dropped off at a dealer hundreds of miles away by accident and they have to get someone with acne and green "L" plates to drive the car to them. Just kidding BTW.

I don't think it's too much to ask to be honest! All I want is someone to say......"you can have it on this day".

Ordered new cars before (fiat, vw, nissan) and I'm pretty sure they all gave me a date and a few weeks before allowed me to choose a reg number.

As for the L plate kid with acne.........it's the other idiots on the road I'm more concerned about!

And to think it will probably turn up without electric folding mirrors to fully rub my nose in it. (I'm expecting a 1.4tsi elegance estate)

Look at it another way - once it has arrived you can have it on any day you like.

But I do agree - once the car is in the UK - a dealer should know when they are getting it, and so when they can have it PDI'd prepared and ready for collection.

1. Yes

2. Rubbish. Try and get the 'comms'(order) number off them, you will probably have more luck going to the dealerships sales admin office.

Once you have that number ring Skoda Uk and quote them the number, they will instantly be able to tell you where the car is in the order/build/delivery process. If they say 'go back to the dealer' explain you are not satisfied with the dealers response.

I did this every 2 weeks until the car arrived

Assuming your dealer in in the Manchester area it is likely your car will come into the country at Grimsby.

3. If you find that it arrived in the country 10 to 14 days ago then this is a possibility and was damaged in transit from Czech/Germany and will be repaired at VW's (Skoda) compound at Grimsby.

dealers can track most of it but its when its on the transporters u kinda lose control, i used to work in sales for vauxhall and had alot of people asking these questions. 9 times out of 10 they will put it off a little bit just to allow time to make sure its been properly through the workshop for pdi and valeted etc keep on their case though
