Flatspot on cousins vrs

Featured Replies

Hello, he wanted your guys opinion on his 04 vrs, basically when its at idle and you floor it it doesnt respond straight away, theres a hesitation then it kicks in. If you disconnect the MAF it still does it.

Turbo lag? :x

  • Author

only happens sometimes, not always and always from idle.

talking about turbo lag does it kick in on the same revs on all vrs's or can it vary a bit. I think mine kicks in just above 2k rpm.

By 2.5k the turbo should be well on its way, you could always fit a boost gauge so you can see whats happening.

Not sure about the flat spot tbh.

Is his TB clean ???

You hardly notice any turbo lag on these cars, the exhaust and compressor turbines on a K03S are so small it doesn't take much exhaust gas flow to get the turbo spooling up, not like it does on a big turbo.

Mine tends to start spooling up about 1800 revs in 2nd or 3rd. As Dave said it's helpful to have a boost gauge fitted so you know when the turbo is providing boost or not and how much it is peaking at.

You said in another thread his car is quite high mileage, so might be worth doing a TB clean or at least taking the hose off and seeing how much of a mess it is in there
