Pas light on

Featured Replies

Please help my father in law owns a w reg fabia my2000 overs his 3 years of ownership various faults front wheel bearings and front coil spring last August. This week the EPS steering light came on and the became steering heavy with no assistance. So had the fault codes read by local mechanic, 3x DTC's. 00566 no plausible signal, 01288 supply voltage teminal 30 low, 00816 sensor for steering open/short circuit. So looked on this forum and others and spoke to my local Skoda specialist and decided to try a new steering angle sensor on the rack....... That's right fault still present and £115 worse off. Anybody go any idears I'm guessing the next option is a pump unit but at £600 it is almost half what the car is worth! Please help as we all know about the mother in law jokes LOL. Thanks Marcus.

check all the plugs and wiring going to the pump for corrosion/breaks, especially over the N/S wheel arch area, also make sure your battery is ok and all terminals secure

Comes the baterry light on whe you start the car. If not check the blue brown wiring from the alternator!!! all the way to the batery.

If it hasn't had a new battery in it's life, bet it needs a new one.

Hi People,

thanks for all your surgestions I re-charged the battery last night and tested charging rate all OK. Checked plugs on pump unit all 3 OK and checked fuses on battery box cover with power and earth to fat wires at pump unit all OK. Looking like the pump is faulty?

Thanks Marcus.

I had similar fault with PAS. Using the free version of VAG-COM you can make measurements on the PAS block and this help me to diagnose a faulty pump.

Mine was intermittent fault but once when it was in its faulty mode saying supply votlage too high, I measured the votlage myself at around 12~13V but the PAS pump control module (built onto pump) reported 18V back through VAG-COM so it turned itself off (so steering heavy)

I replaced it myself with one from a breakers yard. It cost about £100. Got to take front bumper off, battery out, front wheel and plastic liner in wheel arch. Sounds a big job but took about half a day and I dont really know that much about cars!

Hope you get sorted!

Mark.
