Would I be mad...

Featured Replies

That's a good shout Bowders, can't find a thanks button on here anymore?! Am hopefully gunna go and test drive two tomorrow, both ST220 estates. I don't know if I am just having a funny five minutes but I seem dead certain on this...I have already test driven the one I wanna buy, it sounds sweet but there is only so hard you can drive a car in a 'test drive' with the owner/salesman sat next to you holding on for dear life..! I went from a Saxo VTS to my VRS, gambled and am chuffed with the Octy, just not chuffed enough. The online reviews for the ST are pretty good, seems like a sort of rare collectable car, may hold it's value...?! I suppose it's not just the seats and cruise, it's the whole package really. Thanks for your input though mate

If you uploaded the pics to your profile then go in and get the URL for it I think it it. If its on photobucket then just click on the web link thing and copy it then just paste it into the reply box.

No Worries Woo7dy.

I have owned around 47 cars in my liftime, most of them being Fords , ST's, RS's ranging for Mk1 Escort Mexico's, RS2000's , Escort turbos, RS cosy's, Then Peugeots(205's, 309's, 405 MI16's, Vauxhauls (less said the better), MG's and and Scoobys to name a few.

All of them I said to the Mrs I would keep for ever. :giggle:

She gave up packing her bags at the 5th car

When I looked for my ST200 I looked at loads and finally went for a Saloon version which are rare as most are hatchback on the ST200 . The interior was full leather with blue/black colouring. Full spec was amazing even by todays standards. I had powerflow twin exhausts made up which sounded amazing. I thought this car I would keep for ages.

3 months it lasted. yep 3 months and it was a lovely car. But it did not tick a lot of boxes after ownership. The handling was bad, the fuel economy very bad, and it is actually hard to discribe why I liked it so much in the first plce. Bare in mind I have never kept a car for more than one year, I have had the VRS 3 years.

That speaks a lot for the VRS well to me anyway.

Don't let this put you off by the way as it is you who knows what you want.

good luck in your quest... And keep us posted....

What do you think..?

I am so confused, have been researching this way too much now!

I've always fancied a st220 like you Woo7dy. Maybe it's the rerun of Top Gear on Dave when JC is telling us it's more rare than an Aston Martin that's playing round and round in my mind? They do look good and sound great, but the one thing that put me off was the running costs, they weren't in relation to what I would be gaining over the Octavia. Tax, insurance, fuel, tyres etc would be a lot more, but the performance over a remapped Octavia isn't much better. Apart from heated seats and a few toys, there wasn't much of a pull for me to get one.

Like Bowders, I've owned a few cars, but I've now had the Octavia 4 years from new and have no intention of selling. There'd have to be a very good reason for me to get rid as it is such a good all rounder. Mind you, the dealer is selling this, more my cup of tea really,

I like that GT. Cant be right tho? 35 tax and only 20 mile on clock?

Well if we get 89 of us to chip in a mere £1k each, we could all have it for 4.10 days of each year, what do ya reckon?!

Still pondering over the ST220, 1 weeks time and I'll be decided for sure...thanks again for your input guys and sorry again to hijack this thread..

In a hypochondriac sort of way, I would not go for a MG ZS over the VRS, no way. Looks like a Rover 45 with a bodykit, to chavy, the saloon does look coolish tho but still wouldn't want one!

Nice car woo7dy but i just can't see what extra you would be geting for the price over your VRS.

Drive it more, take it out for a long run, do some slow around town driving and some brisk runs, including some tight roundabout and country lanes. Dealer should not mind.

Then do exactley the same drive in your VRS, this will help you gauge the variantation on driving and maybe help you decide.

The Mondeo has more space if that is a plus point to you great climate control and electric / heated seats all round (i think). I love the electric blue colour too.

But with that space comes a heavier handling so you need to experinence driving it enough to determine how you feel.

Enough said I think go make your decision.....

All the best.
