Considering a 2006-7 Octy VRs - Questions about kit

Featured Replies

Hi all, first time poster, long time lurker - be gentle with me. ;)

I've finally got the money together to get a MkII Octy VRs and I have a few which I'm due to test drive very shortly. However, although I've managed to get my head around most of the optional kit that came with these older models, there are a few things I could do with clarifying and I'm sure they're straightforward enough for those with the knowledge.

1) On the 2006 VRs, did dual climate control come as part of a package with other items (i.e. Air Conditioned glovebox)?

2) Did rear electric windows ship as part of another package (I've heard talk of a comfort package for example) so that looking for models with rear electrics can be done by looking for some other visible feature?

3) I know that the 3.5mm Aux jack in the Jumbo Box started shipping as of 2007 as standard (along with the brake caliper colour change). On a 2006 model, how expensive / possible is it for that feature to be retrofitted to a model?

Many thanks oh glorious Skoda Hivemind, I thank you for your patience with my noobish questions.

Hi,

My car is an April 07 car and I had to pay extra for the bits you mention. They are all part of an option package. Soon after I got mine, they were given away as a special offer before becoming standard kit.

I would imagine that getting a pukka iPod dock thing would be a better bet than a retro fitted Aux socket.

Steve

2007 spec cars began shipping before Jan. Mine is a 2006 Aug 06 but to 2007 spec. I have maxidot and dual zone climate, red calipers etc but the dual zone and maxidot weren't standard and neither was the Jumbo box (air conditioned glovebox etc). I do have the 3.5mm aux in though.

Most VRS only shipped as standard in that year with manual air con, no rear elec windows or jumbo box and you will get 17" alloys as standard (mine are too)

Best of luck

Thanks guys, good to know.

Well, I've put a deposit down on a Met. Black '55 plate Petrol VRs - subject to it not driving like a legless Badger I may be officially joining the club tomorrow. :)

Anyone have any feedback on costs to retrofit both Maxidot and the 3.5mm jack?

Maxidot will cost circa £400 depending on how cheap you get the dash pod

I wouldn't bother retro fitting aux socket. For the cost you would be better of with an MDI cable and iPod adapter.

Carl

iirc it is the 57 reg cars that got the jumbo box as standard. I had to payfor the cruise control as an option now.

if you dont mind me asking how much is the 55 reg vRS going for these days im hoping to be able to get mine on the on the market hopefully fom next week

The one I've gone for, 5just under 50k, Dual-climate, F+R Electric windows, Air conditioned Glove, Rear Parking Sensors, 18" Zenith Wheels, Jumbo Box, Met Black Paint - for £8500 and they threw in 6 months Road tax as well.

I'd say judging by what I've seen that's slap bang in the middle of what you should expect to pay for a similar specced model, and believe me I've just about worn out my retinas looking at these damn cars.

Picking it up tomorror early afternoon, can't wait. Not only the first car I've bought, but the first Performance I've ever driven too. Must remember not to drive beyond my limits on the way home. Unfortunately those limits are defined by my current car, a 1.7 Astra Diesel. ;)

Agree with Carl on the AUX in - waste of time trying to retro-fit when there are so many other options available.

I see the Dension 300 I've recently sold has come up again in the for sale section - this would do you proud, with Ipod and USB stick connectivity thrown in as well :)

Congrats on the purchase, I'm sure you'll love it.

Just to add to the confusion, my car was registered in March 2007 but is 2006 spec - green calipers, no rear leccy windows etc etc....!

I just checked out the Dension units which I'd never heard of before. They look incredible, so thanks for the heads up Timmyboy.

A question though, what head unit comes in the 2006 Octy VRs?

Edited by muterobert

Stream Headunit was standard

And as yours is a '55 plate, it's not MP3 compatible unfortunately.

But if you get the Dension, no need for it really as it only plays MP3's through the single CD slot and not the changer.

HI , SURE YOU WILL LOVE IT , TO CONFUSE MATTERS MORE MINE WAS A 56 PLATE WITH DUAL CLIMATE JUMBO BOX BUT NO aux 6 CD CHANGER IN BOOT , CRUISE CONTROL ! 18" WHEELS , REAR LECCIE WINDOWS AND THE LOVELY GREEN CALIPERS . DSC000482.jpg Mine on right with willskodas . Black was the colour i wanted ,<long story> ENJOY!! B)

Anyone have any feedback on costs to retrofit both Maxidot and the 3.5mm jack?

Ben at Shark Performance (shark_90) is your man for retro fit Maxidot clusters.

Thanks all. That Maxidot upgrade really is a no-brainer, thanks for the info.

I have it! Picked it up this afternoon and the car is absolutely immaculate with the exception of the gearstick knob (arf!) whcih seems to get scuffed quite easily.

Driving it back was such a joy compared with my crappy old Astra.

I LOVE this car. :)

Congrats on the purchase

I've still got to wait for my new FL VRS...............I want it, I want it.................now

Hi Guys.

I've found this thread very interesting as I am to about to buy a Vrs tomorrow.

I'm going for a 57 plate tdi in silver. I'm not sure exactly what the spec is but it looks from the pictures to have dual climate and 18s.

Does anyone know what bits mentioned above should be standard?

Cheers

Hard to say have you got green or red brake calipers, red are the later cars . Some have goodies as a no cost option ,and then later they were standard <wheels , D - climate ,rear e- windows, jumbo box, later cars had lead in there for i- pod, > mine has cruise as well. Maxidot was an option as well

....only seen one silver m2 VRS and thats

Hi, the car has red calipars.

Silver VRS

Is it correct that the UK cars do not have bluetooth connection? I might have to go for the RNS 510 sat nav and bluetooth kit.

Cheers

Yes no bluetooth . I have a Tom tom 720 , it has bluetooth as well , much cheaper option and can be updated. Inbuilt sat - navs look cool but are obsolete immediately. < new houses , new roads, etc >Also check if you are going down that route that it will actually connect to YOUR phone . Neighbour has a brand new Superb with touch screen sat - nav and has parrot installed

Thanks for the update mate.

I've found this OEM Bluetooth installation guide. Do you know if anyone has tried this?

I'll hold fire on the sat nav for now. I have a Nav Man anyway.

No i dont looks complicated though!!

No i dont looks complicated though!!

lol, I thought the same. When it said fairly straight forward I assumed I must be a real whimp when comes to that kind of stuff.

I'll have a word with Ben @ Shark and see if its something he could do.

You missed a trick you should have signed in as pie -man considering where you are from:giggle:
