Picking up car tomorrow

Featured Replies

Well the day has almost arrived. Picking up my new Octavia Estate in Elegance spec tomorrow. Anthracite Grey.

I already know that my car doesn't have electric folding mirrors but I've accepted £180, a set of mats and a tank of fuel in compensation.

Hopefully, everything else will be ok with the car tomorrow. I've already seen it but it was inside the service garage covered in tape so couldn't do a full inspection of panels etc.

A trip to Norfolk on Friday should give it a nice run in! :)

I'll post some pics as soon as possible.

Shame about the mirrors but at least you're about to collect yours  My vRS shouldn't be far away now and still hoping for collection at Easter. Mine will get a run from Suffolk to its home in the Highlands to run it in

I will collect mine next week. Shame that electric folding mirrors is not standard but I have opted for electric adjustable seat and the package comes with electric folding mirrors according to their web site.

Can't wait to see it in flesh. Will drive it from Newcastle to Windsor in Easter, will put it into a good test.

Still sounds nice though...I am picking my VRS tdi up on Saturday in Newcastle and driving it back to Manchester. so a little run to warm it up :) can't wait

It's no Vrs but I'm pretty happy with the poke of the 1.4tsi to be honest. Trying to reduce day to day running costs so that's the reasoning behind the engine choice.

(I don't do enough miles to justify a diesel)

Still......maybe a vrs next time!!! :giggle:

Hope the pickups go well for everyone.

Guys

Not wishing to teach you to suck eggs but might be worth using enclosed when you pick up the car. Alwasy best to inspect with a fine tooth comb before signing on the dotted line......

I'd be interested to know how you find the 1.4tsi as I'm thinking of looking at getting one of these myself! I've phoned around every dealer in the locale and there aren't any availabe to test drive! Hope you enjoy the new motor B)

I've had the 1.4TSI for 4 weeks now, and its a nice engine. Not got loads of poke, and I would say if you enjoy a more eager motor then go for something a bit bigger, but for every day commuting and as the family's second car it is fantastic. Good economy, cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to insure, cheap to tax, and still has plenty enough umph to keep up with traffic and make you smile sometimes - what more could you ask for? When I first got it I missed the torque of my 2.0 TDCI Focus, but I've soon got used to this and love the quiet, smooth engine. I might have been tempted with the 1.8 TSI, but looking back it just wasn't in my price range and I just don't need that power and I would have lost my licence too quickly ;). If this was our primary car for a family like ours that takes everything on hols (the joys of a 4 month old baby eh?) then I'd probably want more, but we get that with my wife's 2 litre TDI Scout so I don't need it for every day use as well.

Hope that helps a bit ;)

Well I've picked the car up now and driven 500+ miles this weekend on a round trip to a wedding in Norfolk.

First impressions :

1. I love the car!!!

2. The 1.4 tsi is smooth and quick enough for my liking. It's happy to quietly cruise at 80 mph on the motorway pulling around 3k revs in 6th gear.

3. Everything appears solid and well put together.

4. On first main run I've done 500 miles on 1 tank of fuel. Was getting close to 50mpg at some points.

5. Engine is perky and responsive. Easy to carry speed through corners and more than fine for overtaking. Yes it's not push you into your seat speed but it seems safe and predictable.

6. Comfort is superb. Once I'd found a seat position I liked eating up the miles was effortless. All controls work well and the ergonomics of the cabin work.

7. Space and practicality (I have the estate) is great. We were transporting flowers for a wedding (my wife is a florist on the side) and we fit in everything we needed with the seats down. The variable boot floor can fit a surprising amount of stuff inside it.

Only issue I have so far is a small amount of wind noise coming from somewhere. I suspect a seal in the rear door / window somewhere. (I think there is a post about it). Not had a chance to investigate further but once the stereo was turned on I couldn't hear it.

Car was prepped and Pdi'd by claybank manchester and as far as I can see I haven't noticed anything that concerns me.

Overall a happy and to quote another pose, smug Skoda driver.

Hope it continues!!!!!
