New Steering Rack

Featured Replies

I posted a few days ago regarding my steering being heavy now and again. ive had the problem looked at by an indpendant mechanic who advises the whole steering rack needs replacing to rectify this problem. Does anyone know any garages near Huddersfield West Yorkshire that knows a thing or two about Skoda's and VAG ....apart from the obvious main dealers.

Thanks in advance.

Hello -

I am experiencing the same problem with my PAS light staying on, and occasional heavy steering. If I restart the engine it will go out. PAS light can sometimes refuse to go out, and there will be no steering problem at all, only every other day does the steering have an occasional 'heavy' moment if I can't get the PAS light to go out.

In the Halifax area myself, not far from you but can't really help you with a knowledgeable Skoda mechanic, up to now I have taken my Fabia to Wharf Garage in Sowerby Bridge, been happy with the service there. Will be taking the wife's Ford KA in for an MOT in the next couple of weeks so I was going to ask the mechanic there about my Fabia.

Replacing the whole steering rack sounds a bit alarming when it might just be a signal that's not setting the PAS on when turning...

kind regards - dommow

Really needs to be put on diagnostics or vag-com, especially if a light has come up. This will give a better idea what might be wrong. Steering angle sensor failure is quite common on the Fabia it seems, but if it's only that it's cheaper than having the entire rack replaced.
