URGENT help please - Doors unlocking themselves

Featured Replies

Hiya everyone...

I know what the problem is... as its been affecting the drivers door for sometime.. ie door control module...

but just recently this has gone to a worse stage where it started trying to activate rear door locks whilst driving... didnt think too much about this until a day and half later without using car.. dead battery...

so a guy from work and i both thought ok... what about pulling fuse to central locking, so at least in short term dont get the flat battery... looked at the owners manual, and then at fuse board, and from what i can see there aint a fuse where it states the 5A one should be :/

The cars booked in at Bickertons Tuesday, but come home from work today... and the rear doors have at some point unlocked themselves HELP :)

anyone any ideas if the fuse could be elsewhere for the central locking control unit?

i know this is a common issue, and could probably find it after searching... but as its an urgent one really (mind you at least with dead battery they cant go far.. but could remove what they wished from inetrior :o )

be grateful for any help

cheers

lee

Looking at the back of Haynes, the passenger compartment fuse box (by the steering wheel) has 4 fuses for the central locking

14 - 10A - for the dash lights, sunroof etc

38 - 10A - for the doors

37 - 30A - for the doors

10 - 10A - for the dash lights, sunroof etc.

OK cheers mate for the info...

so the owners handbook then... when it talks about the central locking control unit.. and 5A fuse, whats that exaclty if you know :)

thanks

lee

Given the number of members reporting problems with central locking - which is part of the convenience system - I have added the thread below about that system's components to the Octavia Technical Guides forum:

I have just checked my car. No Fuse 6 either!

Ahh ok.... seems odd, as that is the one which is clear in the owners manual about it being tied to the central locking system hahaha

and thanks for the link to dedicated thread... i still find it quite funny, that when you call the skoda dealer(well my local one at least) that they dont seem to acknowledge it as a 'known' problem with the MK4 platform.. yet both here and on VW forums, there are numerous people having problems.

hmm pulling 38 could be an issue

38 Lighting of the luggage compartment, central locking

system, opening of the fuel filler flap, interior lighting

15,

but at least i am 3/4 full of fuel at the moment.

I noticed from this link : http://new.skoda-auto.com/com/service/documentation/tour/Pages/0609.aspx

that it mentions another control unit at location 29 (like what it describes at pos.37) - anyone know if this would be one of the other door control units

29

Control unit: Petrol engine

control unit: Diesel engine

and a further one :

Petrol engine: Control unit

diesel engine: Control unit

Just been out and had a look at mine - and yes the one for the "central locking control unit" (in green) appears to be missing too :S

fusebox-1.jpg

The one in red is 38, might be worth a try? Just put it back in when you need the fuel filler cap open again. with the fuse out though I would've thought the car will be permanently unlocked until the problem is fixed?

It appears to be unlocking itself anyhow... or at least the rear pins were up tonight :o

can the rear doors not be locked via pushing the pins down from inside? i know this probably aint the deadlocks but... at the moment, without having to jump start or use starter charger.. its flattening the battery...

my only hope is it dont start to manifest itself with windows rolling down before in @ skoda tuesday.. as i read on some thread sometime ago.. scary

ill be asking Bickertons why no fuse at pos.6 then!!! Least its not just mine haha

Thanks again mate for the help and pic :)

Update...

do you ever have that feeling that you wished you hadnt tried something, especially at night and with rain showers :( ....

as it had stopped raining here.. thought id try the removal of the fuse in the pic.. and also try out an RAC power booster/ starter id purchased today for £80 :o The good thing it managed to start the engine after about 5 mins... thats the worse thing ive done all this week with the car...

just let it idle for awhile.. as thought driving somewhere with lights wasnt goin g to help anything - this was with the intention i could drive to work in morning... so anyway, after dash lights had settled (had a few weird lights popping up, think it was because the battery still wasnt giving full power at that moment) i turned ignition off... big mistake....

removed the key and.............. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound of all four windows rolling down *PANIC* (my worse fears of what i had read in other threads coming true)

so got them back up - obviously keys back in and ignition turned on to allow...

tried to remove a second time... again all wind down this time fully :o back in ignition get them back up pronto... my worse fear was them coming down and the power going from battery again...

so basically ive just had to turn things on for last 30mins to fully drain batt again - bit late in evening to go into shed and try and find tools to take batt connection off :/

so there you have it.... the windows stories i now know are for real - NOT GOOD AT ALL... be warned people whom are experiencing problems...

your better to get it fixed before it gets worse... like i have argggg Bus in morning again boo hoo

just to update you all... was contacted by bickertons today at 4pm with bad news.. it is the door control module in drivers door.. but it gets worse for me...

my clifford alarm installer has wired into the loom connected to module.. and all cables are coloured black, this apparently will cause bickertons more grief to put back so all works again, as the wiring is for the immobilisor of the clifford... ?

anyhow because of this i have been told i am looking at a bill for £500 :o GULP

why do i always have to endevour the worse case scenario with these things :(

so to everyone out there.. whom only at this moment have problems with drivers door and mirror.. my advice would be not to leave it... and take a look while it still maybe saveble.

what i find funny is that the dealers dont want to seem to admit this is obviously a design fault, and act like it is the first they have heard of it lol
