Advice - Engine Light & Limp Home

Featured Replies

Encountered my first problem as a Skoda Owner tonight, the engine light has come on and it appears to be in limp home mode. (2008 Octavia 1.6 FSI by the way)

I have managed to get it home as the dealer is now closed for the day. Is it safe to drive it to the dealer tomorrow morning (about 4-5 miles through city traffic) or should I be calling Skoda Assist for thier help?

I've never been in this situation before so have no idea, when I get to the garage are they likely to be able to give my a car to use as I need to get to work tomorrow!!

Thanks for your help.

Hi

I have no idea what's wrong with your car but Skoda Assist provides (amonst other services):

"1. Roadside assistance

In the event of a breakdown, Škoda Assistance will attend to either repair

or recover the vehicle to the nearest authorised Škoda retailer or repairer.

2. Home assistance

In the event of a breakdown at home, Škoda Assistance will attend to either

repair or recover the vehicle to the nearest authorised Škoda retailer or repairer.

3. Vehicle recovery

In the event that the vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside or at home,

Škoda Assistance will arrange for the vehicle to be taken to the most appropriate

authorised Škoda retailer or repairer for repair.

5. Onward travel

In the event of recovery following breakdown, where your vehicle cannot

be repaired within a reasonable time, Škoda Assistance will organise one

of the following:

Car hire*

In the event of mechanical or electrical breakdown only, Škoda Assistance

will arrange and pay for a replacement vehicle up to a maximum of two days.

This excludes road traffic accidents and misfuel or contaminated fuel."

Persoanly, I'd give 'em a ring and see how it goes. If it's busted they will take it to the dealers. Seems they may sort you with a hire car but most dealers will do you a curtesy car anyway.

Good luck either way.

Well, I called out Skoda Assist and an RAC man came out. Read the fault code and it came up with Fault Code 8567 Fuel Trim Lean.

It seems to be running ok now so has advised me to take to the dealers tomorrow, he's left the code there so they can see it.

Guess i'll wait and see what happens in the morning.

Well, took it to the dealer the following morning, hung about for a while for them to do the diagnostics, they said they had done some reprogramming and reset everything and it should be ok now.

I went off happy as it was driving fine .....until today.....

Light back on but appears to be driving fine. Guess i'll take it back in tomorrow morning but its a pain as I need my car as im going away for the weekend.

Which dealer was this? Sounds like they just reset the code and sent you on your way.

Yes, they tried fobbing me off. I took it back down and said they would be looking at it asap. They diagnosed a faulty lambda probe and ordered it. Assured me it would be fine to drive until the part came in. Finally got "fixed" on wednesday, driving through town today and bing the lights back on. No courtesy car in until Tuesday.

Aren;t Lambda's expensive to replce?

No idea, it's under warranty. It's just the inconvenience really, numerous trips to the garage, having to scrounge lifts off of people, late for work etc etc

Do beg your pardon, OP says car is 2008 :)

Apologies
