Looking at Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

In the next month or so i will be putting my current car up for sale, to purchase a Fabia vRS.

Lots of thought has gone into this........ and i'm set........ vRS B)

Now i have set a budget of £6K as i feel that is reasonable spending moneys for one. The only thing that is bothering me to get change from that 6K or if the car does not go for what i'm expecting then im looking at a HIGH! Milage one..... (i have spotted one for 4.5 but its 103,000 miles)

Iv used the search bar : you all say high milage isnt a problem as long as the Cam belt has been done on 60,000 or after 4 years.

Who's got a furby with over 100K on the clock and what would you say i need to look out for?

probably best this is was posted in the fabia section.

Mine is currently on 95k with no issues (04 plate), still has the same clutch and has been re-mapped for 90% of its life. As with any car of high mileage, look for FSH and signs that its been well looked after and not abused. Most important of all if in doubt walk about and look again.

Look through the fabia section

Mine was on 101k when I sold it last week (not a vRS granted, so I'll stay away from the vRS bits). After around 9 years of the life, the seat bolsters were starting to collapse a bit and a fair few rattles were taking hold around the cabin. Other that than, and a snapped coil spring from a pothole, it was holding up OK. All the eletrics worked fine, except the mirror elements which burnt out, and the speaker connection was intermitent. I would still have the car, except for the fact the engine was giving up (a petrol).

When you view, try and find out if its been remapped (if the seller admits to it).

If it has, look out for problems with the clutch (test by flooring it at low speed in a high gear, and looking out for the revs jumping but speed not increasing). Some early enthusiastic remaps were too powerful for the clutch. Some also contributed to problems with turbo failure.

...in the main though, the majority of remapped ones have survived perfectly well - its just something to be aware of.

When your viewing, you'll almost certainly notice bobbling or thread pulls on the seats. This was very common - you could maybe use it to knock the price down a bit ;)

Good luck - cracking wee cars!

...oh - and yeah, wouldn't worry about high mileage. Just definately make sure the timing belt has been done on older models (as above).

With regard to the timing belt, it is not detrimental to the health of the car if it as never been changed, so long as the car is running then the belt is obviously still in one piece, you will just need to budget for changing it immediately (circa £350 with water pump) and knock the seller down accordingly. :)

Mine is on 141000 miles. I drive it hard at times, just mapped it, still runs spot on, could guess the car had half the miles on it. Turbo went at 120000 miles, iv put a second hand one on for £150. Nothing major at all has gone wrong, seats are bit mullered but I'm a fat ****.

Matt
