Picked up my first VRS at the weekend, have a few questions

Featured Replies

Collected my first vrs this weekend, it has 70000 miles, and custom leather interior, so i am very happy with it. I am considering a rear anti roll bar and new air filter for it, but i am very tempted with a revo remap.

Now my question is, is the clutch likely to be effected by the increase in torque from the remap. The clutch seems strong after driving it for the past few days, so i dont now wether to brave it and remap it, and hope the clutch lasts, or am i just asking for trouble.

I have a revo dealer 5 minutes away from me, and i like the idea of their free 5 hour (driving time) trial of the software.

Does anyone have any advice?

Dan

Clutch will last if you take it relatively easy (don't boot it below 2000rpm etc) and I probably wouldn't map it much above 160bhp on a stock clutch... actually, I wouldn't map mine at all!

Hi ive not long had my fabia vrs, and am thinking about getting it remaped. What i can gather from advice from here and other sorces is nothing! Every different person i speak to tells me the opposite from what the last person said. All i know is Alfa romeo on the new mito will do a special spec car where you buy the car then get it sent away to auto delta (alfa's tunning company) and have it remaped up to somthing like 180bhp. Now im thinking if alfa are doing this then can it be as bad as some people are making it out to be? Also the company im looking at have said they wouldnt want to run any more power through the clutch than 178 bhp also increase of tourque. Now let me get this clear im only going on what i think a lot of people are going to think im wrong. Quite a few people have told me to improve suspension and roll bars ect ect. But i spoke to a friend who owns ab styling, but who also knows a lot about performance and he said yes make those changes if you want to go round the track and see improvments, but if your like me and just want improved overtaking speed then wouldnt worry to much on a remap unless tyres are struggling to stay on the road through acceleration. Yes if you are going to floor it in first wheel spin every where take the traction controll off then it will probably kill your clutch, but if somtimes you just wanna get past that car thats just going that little bit too slow but fast enough to annoy you then i wouldnt worry about it. Im going to go ahead with mine and hell if the clutch goes bang then ill come back on and suggest that maybe its not the best idea in the world. Just like to stress before you think this guy seems to know what he's talking about, i dont just an average guy telling you what i think.

James is about right on this, many different answers to the one question. Two questions you have to ask yourself, do I really want this or can I stick with it as standard? Have I got the money standing by in case the clutch does go? Next thing is how far do you want to go with the remap? if you have a revo dealer down the road I would go and speak to them first see how many they have done and what if any come backs have they had through clutches, turbos letting go. Stock outputs from these cars are officially 130 bhp and 235 lb/ft torque, torque is what kills the clutch, especially low down in the rev range, a transmission can take a lot more stress at high speeds. If it was mine I would see if the revo dealer can do a custom map and specify the outputs you'd like to achieve, say 160 bhp and roughly 270-280 lb/ft torque, but have the map set up so the extra oomph only builds up from about 2000 rpm onwards. If you are a bit careful with it i.e. no full bore starts and only give it the full beans in the higher gears i.e. 4th , 5th , 6th then you SHOULD be fine.

Ian.
