Hesitation/Flat spot

Featured Replies

My 03 plate vRS seems to have a slight hesitation or flat spot at about 2800-3000 rpm. I can hear the turbo spinning up before that (about 1800 rpm) but the car seems to hesitate for a fraction of a second then goes again.

Sometimes I can hear the turbo/wastegate louder then other times and sometimes the car feels more responsive then others, I don’t know if this is related to the hesitation but does seem to be?

I have done a few searches on and found lots about cleaning the throttle body so I cleaned it at the weekend following an excellent guide I found on here (thanks chicken_eyebrow  ) and mine has loads of black solid mess in it so it needed a good clean anyway but this has not made any difference to the flat spot.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I have some sort of boost leak somewhere and how would I find/fix it if that was the case?

Thanks

Is the car standard or remapped?

Have you got access to a fault code reader or someone with VAG-Com that can scan it?

If you can get it fault code scanned it may show a 17705 fault code which is usually a leaking hose, but there are a lot of hoses to check that's for sure! If it has no fault codes then it's going to be harder narrowing it down.

I have only had it a week, i thought it was standard but when my mate drove it who used to have a vRS himself he said it felt a bit quicker then his and you can hear the wastegate dumping louder then his one IIRC? its has a green panel filter in it but a standard dump valve as far as i can see?

I don't know anyone with VAG-Com but I do have an OBD2 reader myself, i might try that and see if i get any codes up, thanks.

The green panel filter does make it a bit louder, I put one in mine the other week and can hear the turbo spooling up a bit louder than it was with the OEM filter.

Let us know what fault codes (if any) come up.

Had a similar problem with my standard vrs, slight hesitation, some days worse than others. Thought at first it may have been a split pipe but couldn't see anything visible. Serviced it last week and changed the following......

Spark plugs, oil and filter, air filter, dump valve(as i had a standard spare one kicking round), cleaned throttle body (fairly coked up).

After running around in it a few days the problem seems to have gone away, Most likely to have been plugs or throttle body in my case.

looking around all the vag forums , i found a lot of people fitted a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator on mapped cars to solve the problem and it worked on mine :)

but if you put a 4 bar reg on it then it will overfuel if it hasnt been mapped for a 4 bar reg !!!!

thats just saved me starting a thread :giggle: cheers

Thanks for the information people, I know it's not the same as vag-com but I did plug my OBD2 reader in tonight and there was no fault codes at all.

It's having an oil/filter change at the weekend if that doesn't help I'll change the spark plugs next lol

better to over fuel a bit than run lean and the regulator will only make sure there is enough pressure at the rail for the injectors so i dont think it would over fuel
