broken cable from OUTER door handle to lock mecanism

Featured Replies

i dont believe this...the cable from the inside handle was broken in drivers door for a while...had to open the window and open from outside, real pain...anyway i fixed this last week.

now just to really **** me off the passenger outer door handle stopped opening the door yesterday!! i removed the door card today and had look and eventually found a really short wire cable that runs from the outer door handle to the locking mecanism had snapped in the middle! looks like its in a nightmare of a position to replace. not sure if i even can replace just this cable.

i rang a skoda parts guy today and described it to him but he sounded unsure. he sent me a parts diagram of a door but i found it really hard to pick out which cable it is on this :'(

anyway just wondering has anyone else had any experience with this problem and if so can i replace this cable seperately...really looks like its in a nasty place to get at. if it can be done probably involves removing numerous other parts too...cant wait...next cars a convertible

My passenger outer cable failed too about 2 years ago. I got the dealer to do it. I can't remember the exact amount but I didn't go ouch. £50 - £60 quid maybe supplied and fitted.

However, 2 years ago their labour rates were not the £75 per hour + VAT that they are currently charging.

I believe it is do-able DIY but fiddly in the extreme.

Incase this still needs to be done, search for the thread with info on how to change the lock microswitch. There was one with pics on how to do it. It's practically a guide to fixing this as well, just leave the microswitch-part of the guide out.

Edit:

Found it,

There you go, hope this helps

got it thanks mate...should help out!!

Hi Buddy, That cable is pictured in my How to DIY guide used in that link. It is very difficult to get to as you have to remove the door lock asm as shown to get to it. I can't remember if you can actually replace that bit, and if you could the dealer want sell it, they will sell you the hole lock asm at around £90.

You could get a replacement door lock from a breakers, The VW Golf and bora are the same, and if need be just swap the cable over.

This pic looks like the cable could be removed.(shown left hand cover of pic)

thanks mate

that pic shows it clearly but as you said i was doubtful i could replace just this cable. i was onto skoda parts guy and he sent me this diagram

doorlock-asm.jpg

i described the cable to him and he highlighted number 8 as being the right one but i couldnt be sure if this was the right one or not. if it was i think i can get it as a seperate part so maybe somebody can tell for sure if part no8 fits the bill...looking at the pic from your guide its starting to look like a winner

will wait for replies me thinks

thanks again mate...really appreciate it

It looks like item 8 to me.
