Turbo Problems TDI

Featured Replies

HI Guys

I have recently purchased a 2001 octavia TDI 110 and im having some issues with the turbo.

1st and 2nd gear seem to be fine 3rd is tempromental but when in 4th gear at around 3000 rpm the turbo seems to just cut out and only work again once i have turned the ignition off and back on, iv read a few reviews for the 130 Bhp engine and they all seem to have the same issue and solution which is tiny cracks in intercooler pipes and pipes sliding on and off, i havnt checked my pipes yet but is this a common problem on these engines??

very greatful if anyone can help me

also 5th gear seems to be fine, cruises very smoothly,

simon

The differing Gear issue is due to engine load / boost.

I would imagine that if you accelerate gently in the higher gears it will get higher up the Rev range, Which is probably why 5th is Ok. ( Try it & See )

It could indeed be overboost from a split hose or leaking Joint, It could be the Map sensor is Faulty, again giving boost related issues & it could aslo be the fact that the Turbo's variable vanes are not functioning as they should & are sticking, Again giving boost issues.

You could do with the error codes reading from the Ecu which may give you more of a clue ..

If it was me I would start with the simple ones 1st.

Clean the map sensor with some Carb cleaner & see if this makes a Difference

Check that all Boost hose's are in good condition & that all joints are secured - sealed / sound.

If neither of those sort it or change the characteristics of the fault then things become more expensive.

You can search on the above for more info if required.

Cheers.
