Columbus NAV - TV blackout Bypass

Featured Replies

Hi,

I read a few posts on here about Columbus TV nav function, but most were is it availabe in UK or not.

I ordered a Scout which has the TV function, but is there a way to disable the TV blackout while moving?

I found a Kufatec http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p529_TV-Free---VW-MFD2-RNS2-RNS-510----Plug---Play-.html

Will this do the job and if yes i guess it's not something to be done DIY?

Cheers,

Maybe this is going to be a silly question.

But why in god's name would you want to override this feature?

Ditto.

Maybe you're allowed to drive and watch TV in Kosova ?

Or maybe its so the passenger or kids can watch it?

I used to have my old Witson playing dvd's in the roomster for the kids and did not find it a distraction :)

My passengers used to watch dvds on my old kenwood head unit quite a lot. You just discipline yourself not to look at it.

So during the period of establishing discipline you just drove without due care and attention?

What is with everyone and high horses around here lately?

There are valid reasons for doing it and I can't see how it's down to anyone other than an officer of the law to question it.

Right on Ben :) in essence it is no more distracting than the fancy moving display on the Satnav :)

Yeah, I'm such a **** lol

God's sake, a simple question I asked :) Yes there is *no* law stopping me watch TV on the move. I also have a disabled mother that i regularly drive a couple of hours to her physical therapy and so a DVD or TV would help "quiet" her down. Myself i don't even listen to a Radio as I like to enjoy the road view and noise, let alone watch TV.

Shark is right, lately a lot of jump posters trying to impress/question/convince and generally not sticking to technical question ;)

Cheers

Not trying to impress at all.

I was simply asking a question - because I assumed you were a person of interlect and I could not understand how somebody as such would want to do this.

BS if you think you can have it playing DVD's and you won't look at it and totally ignore it.

There is a reason why it's illegal to do so in the UK - because it causes accidents.

If there is no law in your country about this then I'm just pleased I don't ever have to drive on the roads there!

If it's similar to setups I've seen on other radios, the head unit is being told the road speed of the car in order to work the automatic volume compensation (Radio automatically gets louder as you drive faster). If this is disconnected the radio has no way of knowing you're moving and won't disable to TV.

Ive done a pikey hack on my MFD2, its not hard. Not sure if it would do the Columbus though.

That's the problem. Instead of answering the question about the cable, you assume my intelligence, question my intention, imply i will watch the DVD and pleased you don't drive in roads near me.

Why are you posting just for the sake of posting? If you can;t contribute to the question, don;t spam the thread with unnecessary explanation.

This is a technical Car forum, not a guess posters intellegence/intentions. Move along mate.

Thanks to all who helped, cheers ;)

If there was a post of the week award, that would get my vote.

This is a Skoda Owners discussion forum. Not limited in any way that I am aware of to 'technical' subjects. Correct me if I am wrong.

Honestly - how many threads in this forum, or sub forum are purely technical in nature?

No-one questioned your intelligence, intent, safety of and legality maybe - these three at least are legitimate discussion in my opinion.

Agreed, but my question was technical and in no way asks for which roads would Stoofa like to or not to drive and neither does a TV Cable give the right to Stoofa to assume am I a person of intellect or not.

Yes, it's the right to free speech but before that i would assume one would try to help/answer the given question before intepreting the law/wishes/etc.
