Prime Prestige of Bradford - for fitting an MFD3 ...

Featured Replies

Couple of people on here have bought from them. Question where the unit comes from...

I like the look of OEM Bluetooth integration...but its expensive

Looks good - was looking at paying £500 at least off ebay then need to fit and code it. I might plump for this if its £550 for fitting and all the coding to the optical park, bluetooth and the maxidot...

Question where the unit comes from...

This is what I was worried about. So, I ask them 'from where?' and then ignore the answer? ;)

Anyone on here who's used them care to comment?

Was interested in the price quoted after looking through this thread so had a look on the website. The reason these are so cheap is that the unit is 2nd hand. Doesn't make it very clear on the site at all which is perhaps a bit dishonest / misleading. Found the info around them being 2nd hand on the FAQ section. Still a good price assuming that the unit is in mint condition (perhaps a big assumption) but somewhat put off by the fact that they have failed to make it clear that the units are not new and that you need to go digging for it.

You could be forgiven for thinking there's another reason why they've been less than clear about the origin and condition of these units...

I looked at these guys & thought about it, but now I know that they're selling secondhand stuff of what could be described of "dubious origin" then I think I'd rather pay the proper price for one and know that it's kosher!

Plus the warranty is only 3 months.

So you can bet that by law of Sod, it'll pack up in 3 months & 1 day! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Yer, TBH I had assumed the units were 2nd hand anyway, but the 3 months warranty throws some doubt in there.

Anyone know any other reputable places doing decent prices on MFD3 (or Bolero for that matter) upgrades?

You know, I've read the site and I'm pretty confident they'd do a good job. If you're worried about warranty, they offer an extended warranty (although only up to 12 months) for between £100 - 150.

Well, gonna pay off my STS unit and Remap from Shark first and then I'll ponder some more. But the MFD3 does sound like a seriously tasty bit of kit! :o

The units may well be 2nd hand but do that many people sell these units out of new cars or are that many VAG cars written off and stripped?

Anyone got a good word to say about this company?!

Someone on here must have used these guys!

I know some have used OEM retrofits but I've never seen this name before even though it's the same company.

I used Primeprestige in March '09 to get Nav fitted to my Audi A3 Sportback. They drove from Bradford and fitted at the dealer (Reading Audi). Paid about £500 and really pleased, absolutely no probs.

The unit had come from Denmark as all the previous addresses were in that country. The DVD disk was a copy but has worked fine to this day and is more up to date than age of car.

Now looking at chopping for A4 Cabriolet and will def give them a try again. I know it's probably dodgy, but at the price is an excellent solution.

Classic!

So as long as it's cheap, and you're benefiiting, then it's ok?

That quote would probably be sufficient to obtain a conviction

Ok, probably a poor choice of words, what I really meant was that it's not clear what the source of these units are. They told me that they are from insurance write-offs which may or may not be true. That said I have had mine for well over a year now and have been 100% happy with it. Also, Reading Audi were more than happy to let these guys fit it on their premises and the sales manager even checked all was working once they had finished.

I kept my A3 Symphony Unit and sold on ebay for about £100 so all in all it cost me £400 to get factory spec Audi Sat-Nav for which I will more or less get back what I paid come trade-in time. As I said am looking for an A4 cabriolet to keep for year or so and will then look to switch into Yeti 4x4 DSG once there are a few ex-demo's around. In both cases would have no hesitation in sourcing Sat Nav in this way again.

There is a new website to these guys.

Appreciate might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I doubt it's possible to get at more competitive price.

There price has now gone up to £600 - seems strange as they are coming down on Ebay - Looks like an ebay one for me.

They fitted one for me some months ago and I have been fairly pleased with it. They had VCDS with them for setting up a few codes necessary for the change of unit, so I had them enable a few extra options whilst it was plugged in ;)

The only disappointment I had with them was this: once installed, they tried to load the V.5 maps onto it, but it didn't want to know so they put the V.4 maps on instead, promising to send me a V.5 disc ASAP. I heard nothing thereafter, and a friendly reminder email yielded absolutely nothing.

Also, it seems (according to them at least - I'd love to know if anyone here knows different) that the buttons on the steering wheel are now only there for show, they won't talk to the Columbus unit at all, and additionally, when the unit has control of the Maxidot in Nav mode, it's impossible to get the Maxidot out of the Nav display.

I think that they are talking rubbish to be honest - my old Bora with MFD ver D worked fine with the 'maxidot' and the steering controls. It seems that you have an 05 car - maybe that is the issue if you have had an MFD3?

To get the steering wheels buttons working requires modded firmware, mine now work after applying the fix.

Modded firmware, a new CAN gateway & a click or two with VCDS fixed it for me! Full MFSW control & no Maxidot lock-ups...

Is that easily done without bricking the unit? Has anyone written up about this anywhere else here? I'm aware that I'm leading discussion away from the OP here!
